An interesting thing to consider, and something that I don’t think our justice system has really agreed on, is what exactly the ultimate goal is of a sentence. Should we as a society be responsible for the rehabilitation of dangerous people? Should we label them as unfixable and simply contain them indefinitely? Should we disregard their experience and dedicate sentencing to appeasing the victims? There’s no clean way to say what is best. I think back to the Charles Manson video and his description of his young life- like isn’t that sort of society’s fuck up? Assuming it’s all accurate. Like why wouldn’t he act out? In those cases rehabilitative action seems appropriate. But then there’s criminals that enjoy causing pain on others, I don’t think you can fix that. Do you contain them? Do you put them out of their existence? I think a governmental standard is important nonetheless. Mob justice is horrific. I saw a video of a seven year old boy get lynched and I can’t imagine what he possibly could’ve done that would warrant his long and harsh punishment and yet a crowd of people thought it was fair. That it was justice to be stripped naked, beaten to a pulp, and lit aflame. I think peoples’ perception that death is the ultimate punishment isn’t correct. It seems so much more cruel to let someone rot for years and years in a cage, or most cruel, to torture someone and not let them die. But then again that perspective is not a universal truth and can’t be implemented across the board.

I think one of the worst things was Scaphism or also called “The Boats” where they over-fed you over and over again with honeyed milk then trapped you on a boat and left you to rot alive and be eaten by bugs and bacteria for days or weeks. Just a stew of excrement, sweat, blood, pulsing crawlies literally under your skin and you can’t move and there’s pressure ulcers and... It just sounds exceptionally gruesome. You FINALLY die of sepsis.

I have to make a comment on your diss that some romanians consider vlad as a decent leader. There is a reason for that and the whole southeastern, central europe has figures like vlad who have been hailed as folk heroes. I'm very disappointed you guys didnt go into detail about people being broken on The Wheel. In my opinion that is one of the worst ones from back in the medieval times. Being tied to a wagon wheel, and having a dude break all your limbs in a bunch of places with a big cudgel or hammer, then leave you to die, which would take several days.
