I agree with Paul. You can't assume that a sentient AI will share the same emotions as human beings. I don't think saying that all life behaves the same way is a good argument, because even looking at biological life, there is so much variety in emotions, behavior intelligence etc. We can't pretend to understand how artificial life will behave because it isn't constrained to biological evolution nor is it even necessarily constrained to having a body or death.
