Another point, about those mince pies. The company I work for is a multi-billion dollar industry, and they refuse to shut down operations for christmas day for 8 hours even. And what’s better, they don’t even have like a sign up sheet for who is willing to work that day and who would rather not, not even an option to spare some poor fuck with their family at home when I’m single and willing to work haha. Minor point just think it’s funny how lazy and greedy they are.

I cannot believe Paul's stunning lack of compassion for those brave lawmen who were given the unthinkable choice of electrifying an old black lady in her doorway, or not doing that. He just doesn't understand what it's like to be a member of the thin blue line. They all took the oath to exploit and endanger, and they have to live up to that responsibility every single day. Paul wouldn't last one day as a lawman, not in Manatee County or anywhere else.

I don't think the writers of Dolomite Is My Name meant to portray his early rise as an absolute triumph. He did get coast-to-coast recognition, but only by the black community. Maybe you or I would see that as legendary enough, but the story is about him shooting for the next level. He was trying to can ALL the beans. Also, biopics tend to have little disappointing voids in the story, that a fictional script wouldn't suffer. Like in Catch Me If You Can, how'd the protagonist's dad die? Dumbass fell down some stairs and busted his neck, off-camera. If Hollywood had its entire way, they wouldn't have let him go out like that, but reality can be a little blunt and arbitrary.

Sometimes I wish I were in the room when they criticize movies. They have a bad habit of deciding what a movie is "supposed" to be or what the "spirit" of it is and then if any deviation or reinterpretation occurs they dismiss it outright. They even do it to songs, Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence comes to mind. I will say that they were right about the new IT movies though. Pennywise is not supposed to look like a demon, it defeats the purpose of him being a clown. But I don't think every instance of a piece of art deviating from its original vibe is necessarily bad.
