I got to thinking that the concept of paternalism could be an interesting societal trend to dissect. The idea that some person or some higher power "knows better" than you and therefore can overrule your autonomy. From making it law to wear seatbelts and helmets, to not letting people decide what medical treatment they want even if they're well informed on what they're asking for. Particularly in relation to reproductive health since people get so touchy about it; ie abortion is bad, elective sterilization isn't acceptable unless you've popped out a few kids and/or are like 50, etc. You might even be able to lump the ability to use different substances into the equation, extreme body modification, or the ethics of suicide. I mean at what point do you say "It only effects them, so it's not my business" or "The damage they inflict onto themselves could potentially effect someone else, so it's all of our business"?

It’s kind of unusual for them, although I will say classism is extremely underreported as an issue by the mainstream media while racism is overblown. There is still undeniably systemic racism, easily seen in police targeting blacks and businesses avoiding “black sounding names” when hiring. Still, I think it’s just a visceral reaction to the fact that systemic economic oppression and classism is almost never talked about by the MSM

I want to live in Paul's America. I feel like my ability to create keeps getting eaten away by my work. I feel like my mental illness is going to kill me before poverty can, and that the two feed into each other. I only care that we get a Dem is empathy for Hispanics and those directly impacted.
