The 1920's-40's were 'Suave', which was a precursor to cool but had a different style. The 80's tried to package that corporate nonsense as cool with actors like 'Micheal J. Fox' portraying the 'cool preppy'. When talking about Social Media, Paul sounds like he forgot about AOL, which had many reliable chat rooms with their own communities. I had a black&white tv when I was growing up and remember 'rabbit ears' very well. We also used a rotary phone for much of my childhood. My father was building his own business in the 90's, however, so had one of those big brick-sized carphones.

It depends what you define as "main stream". Huge radio hits are always awful but there is still some good and popular artist. Like tyler the creator or GodSpeed! You Black Emperor! Not to mention many of the "classic" artist were not 1# when they were making music

The mainstream of music has literally become music for stupid people with bad attention spans, at least much more than ever. But I think you're making the mistake a lot of people do: assuming that great music will show up in the mainstream. It used to, and there was crap from every era but you could also find great stuff easily too. It seems crazy now that a band like Pink Floyd ever got as big as they did with intricate music, meaningful lyrics, and long intros. These days, there's still plenty of great music but you have to look deeper for it and not be lazy and expect popular culture to provide.

They've only done the genres. I can't wait for the general list.

Would love to hear more of what you guys have to say on this, especially Paul. I tend to agree with what you have said. Something (call it a collapse if you want) seems to be coming and it freaks me the fuck out too. It is emotional for me too, especially because I have kids. I sometimes wish I hadn't brought them into this world. COVID-19 seems to have brought out the stark differences in our society in droves. I live in MN, one of the states King Cheetoh tried to be behind becoming "liberated" and then days later he rebukes another state for opening too soon against recommendations. This political system we find ourselves in is a joke. Especially under a president who believes in his own ability to make himself God-King of the United States. Something has to be done... Probably worldwide. I want more of this topic. I want to hear all of you talk about this more. I want to be a part of this change too, if and when it happens. I just hope Paul is wrong and the horrors of it are mitigated, but I suspect he is right and it will be something that will result in a lot of horror, before peace can be attained. This resonated with me a lot.
