Black Pete is a reminant of colonialism. Basically santa goes to Africa and takes Black Pete and his family to the north pole(slaves). The Dutch worked heavily in the slave trade while colonizing South America, West Africa, and Indonesia. Dutch traders sent African, a Indonesians slaves to the Americas and China. Black Pete is a sanitation of one evil past. That's the true origin at least.
