On the topic of the pet food taster and researcher, I suspect that the pay isn’t as detrimental or debasing for someone that got a Ph.D in the U.K. or other countries in Europe, as it would be for someone in the U.S. I have a friend that got her Ph.D in microbiology in Germany, and all of those years of quality education only cost her a little more than $5000. My science degree cost me 18 times that, and I only got a Master. The way that the educational system works here in the states is stupefying.

Currently I work as a meat clerk at a store. It's not the most disgusting job ever, but there is a lot of nasty shit in your local supermarket/butcher shop. There is so much old rotten meat that gets stuck in the cracks of the displays. Not to mention plenty of the guys touch the product WITHOUT gloves. So yeah, not super disgusting, but I see plenty of nasty shit. Makes you think twice when buying meat from a store.
