Homages and Rip-offs = DFF #292
🕑 Added 2020-11-14 01:00:03 +0000 UTCHollywood has certainly shown a creativity problem recently, with endless sequels, and prequels and reboots. However, this may only be the most obvious face of the long time and incestuous nature of media. Has your favorite film been abused or has it abused others? Today, Homages and Rip-Offs will be DEEP. FAT. FRIED.

I watched a YouTube video last year about the kimba the white lion thing. I’m glad you guys included that one, it’s very interesting
Canadian Attack Moose
Paul’s snapping at TJ lately for doing basic shit that gets a chuckle or two out of the fans has been really fucking annoying. What’s with his aggression towards TJ? Come on man, he’s your buddy you really gonna keep going after him so heavily like this?
Josh Jerome
I thought Paul said that dude's name was Alejandro Almond-Bar and it made me giggle like an idiot because I'm really baked and way too tired.
Rob Waters
Dude falls in a hole and just can't stop digging. He didn't even set out out to do a video on the subject, he was gonna review the CGI lion king remake and Kimba was a gonna be a footnote but it took on a life all its own. There were like 400 scenes of lions falling off cliffs in that montage, that was a highly unnecessary rewatch but he just couldn't help himself

There's actually a comic series called The Invisibles (1994) by Grant Morrison that has a lot of similarities to the Matrix too, including the idea of a bunch of freedom fighters fighting in a world where the human population is being subliminally controlled to be docile by an existential threat of demons.
Rob Waters
I'm with YMS on the Kimba/Lion King controversy, his case is extremely thorough clocking in at 2 hours
Michael Buonomo
that ending was perfect
The True Nihilist
The poor hard laborer boy becoming a war time hero isn't just a trope in fiction, it happens in in real life a lot. Wasn't Saddam a case of this trope playing out in real life? If not they definitely exist, just can't think of any right now.
Thomas Miller
Maybe releasing it but it was filmed months ago
Shawn Johnson
Strange timing that you are doing this just after Joe Biden is elected.
Krista Vaillancourt
Uh oh, you opened the Kimba can of worms. You know there's this Canadian who's dedicated all of 2020 to the Lion King 2019 and every minute of Kimba. He will sense this take and he will find you Paul.
Anthony Mickelson
Kimba and Simba aren't even remotely related. Isn't a rip off articles entirely wrong fuck sakes.
Bigass Frog
Scotty was downright GLISTENING during this episode
John Jamesmaster
Yeah YMS’s video on it is great. It’s more the articles fault for being misleading, Paul was just reading it out.
Christopher Borra
How many blowjobs did Scotty get this episode? Really, Scotty comes back at 1:44:30-ish with a shiny forehead. Why all the sweat pal?
Denis517
Having half of this episode spoiled by an earlier Grease Trap kinda ruins some of it for me. I think this would have made a better public episode.
John Smith
you know paul, you're one fat, salty and annoying son of a bitch, but you sure do make a good episode.
Keith Dickens

Oh god, more Kimba bullshit. Paul, its been debunked, maybe do some research?

You missed the nod to Hidden Fortress in Star Wars where before Darth Vader does his first force strangle, the officer's line gets cut off. He says "[The force hasn't] given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' hidden fortr-*ergh*"

The previous films of Alex Proyas lend credibility to his style of directing, the Wachowski sisters had only done one other film previously called Bound which was a great flick. Bound doesn't really lend itself to the Wachowski's vision of a dark atmospheric film like The Matrix. Proyas had that same aesthetic all the way back in the 80's, every music video, everything he did was dark and moody atmospheric blah blah blah. I think they done stole it! I like both films regardless though.
