The directors commentary on the original Alien's movie really puts into light how great effects can be created at a very cheap cost. Ridley Scott literally said some of the shots of the Alien eggs would cost thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars to create with SGI in modern times when Ridley just used some gloves and animal parts to serve as the Alien embryos inside the eggs that cost him only 100 bucks or less.
