Publishers put "a novel" on books to sell more books. It started when novels were less common and books were not organised in a way to seperate novels from essays and poetry, now it's done for clarity, tradition and to reassure the reader that the experimental book they have picked up is still something familiar. Makes sense then why Ellis' book has a novel on it. Probably not her choice.
