You oddly don't see this in the west when it comes to lobster though. We transport them in styrofoam boxes with their claws tied and held above their heads, then stack them in a plastic tank right to the rim and never feed them. The only time they eat is when one dies and the rest can eat it's corpse. Then we boil them alive since what little meat they have tends to go off quickly. They also feel pain and unlike humans, can't go into shock from it. So they feel themselves boiling alive right up until the moment they die. But we've all agreed this is fine cause lobster good.

the issue with the dog/cat eating abroad is the cultural belief that inflicting pain on them before death improves flavor and the terrible conditions they are kept in. It's the cruelty people are angry about, not the eating itself. Incidentally some of the animals used are stolen pets, as its largely illegal, so another reason people take issue with it,
