I can't help but think the govt allowing all these govt employees to come forward and confirm UFOs is a cover up for them actually having the tech themselves. They could probably suppress some stories from Air Force pilots hitting the news, right? Maybe it is aliens or another govt but I feel like the most likely answer is that it is a top secret US govt project that almost nobody knows about and they want the public to believe they are unknown instead of govt assets. If it is aliens, I'd bet on AI probes sent out by alien species like we send out satellites.

Personally my feeling on all this ‘government confirms aliens’ is it’s fake and the reason I believe that? Distraction from what actually matters. However I have to say two flaws with that take, one, the government wouldnhave a massive black eye if it was shown to be fake and secondly, as you said people are so apathetic what would even be the point of distracting anyone. I myself don’t really care about aliens because if they’re here, we got no way of doing anything about it, beyond hoping it’s in peace. And my life has enough without considering it might be over from something I can’t control.

If yall are getting into warhammer games, i hugely recommend Chaos Gate Daemonhunters. It's sort of a better xcom game than xcom, and the story and characters actually super enjoyable. i loved it
