I lived in Ireland for 2 years, and they don't even give directions by the streets signs half the time, they'll give it by landmarks because many of their street signs are barely visible overgrown with vegetation and tiny.

The reason we Brits mention "county" is because unlike the US, Britain is tiny. Like England is the size of a small state so imagine if a state was a single country. Smaller subdivisions would be more relevant in conversations. So Paul just take it as another example of us Brits being inferior to your massive glorious American mega empire.
