BTK got caught because his dumbass liked to taunt the police with letters. He wrote a letter asking them if they would be able to trace him if he sent a floppy disk instead. The police responded "no we can't". Then he sent the floppy and the floppy was able to be traced back to a church computer where he was a minister of.
