Mummers don't break into your house. They show up on your doorstep and sing you a Carol. If you don't guess who the mummers are the tradition is you give them booze. The mummers are almost exclusively your friends and larger social group (family etc) and it's pretty much practiced exclusively by older folks from the Rock. I don't think there's many 30-somenthings doing it anymore but my parents used to go out to their friends houses and other Newfies in our town.
