K to make correction. Speaking as someone who worked at Target and used a food bank. Big retailers DO donate expired, and dented type boxes/cans etc all the time. This includes produce too. This is not to say places aren't throwing out food. Places such as Starbucks, Panera, or any gas station toss out food by the bucket. Restaurant franchised or local mom and pop also toss their food.
