Not real emotions, only that which the programmer told it to do via code.

Kyle

Very insightful take . I think still there is too much corporate influence. Many models like Llama are open source but open ai’s GPT algorithms are still a black box. Also open source projects can still be corporatized, like Ubuntu or React. I’d be curious to hear your opinions on those

hookshot245

I reject this AI as a corporate project shit and it pisses me off anytime someone says it simply because, (like many other technologies), it is not just a fucking corporate developed project. There are open source AI models, Stable diffusion being the most popular with a steeper learning curve but results that can blow the others out of the water. Decentralized, open source development is a thing that exist and does not conform to traditional notions of software ownership. It is so much a thing that most web servers are running it. The web relies on it. Its been a thing for decades. A lot of proprietary stuff out there is only used because people are use to it and there are legal contracts that enforce its staying power, and even those projects like windows and Macosx take work from the open source projects with more permissive licensing and put it in their own shit. What are these volunteer programmers working for free around the world trying to fucking sell you? I get software licensing is a niche issue for pedantic computer nerds such as myself that's been co-opted by right wing libertarian dude bros, but its free and voluntary nature is exactly the kind of creative experiment far leftest describe all the time when talking about people doing things for passion and not profit. If you are an anarchist or communist, you should be sucking open source software's fucking cock. Don't tell me its all corporate shit because its not you ignorant toad

It's one thing to say art is subjective but AI art is a force which is being used against existing artists. To compare AI in any meaningful way to the human mind shows they have absolutely no understanding of what AI is beyond the marketing. Like jesus, tell me you aren't an artist without saying it - if you think AI art is any more than just a source for companies to cheap out on paying real artists, you are seriously ignorant. DemonMama nailed it, its used to replace artists. Its a cool trick if you can't draw, sure. But its a sad day when its used in industry and Paul should know better, especially when he claims to support workers. AI is removing the human from the art and that's it. It's making it the most marketable, soulless thing it can. Paul just likes it because he can make some icons without paying anyone.

10 years deep on your guys' podcast and I've never been so disappointed. Certified Paulisher here to tell you that watching you sit there taking pot shots at someone tearing apart your aloof "AI of the gaps" arguments was very frustrating. Absolutely ridiculous. Posted before you moved on to Bush vs Trump on which I'm sure DemonMama will a feckless lib time waster

The Glue Boblin

Well, this is the side of Paul that is not just tolerable but lovable.

Arthur Wilber

I don't know if anyone else agrees but I'd be down for some more stimulating guests like Demon Mama

Jeffrey Searcy

Paul last week: "Bring Demon Mama on and I will destroy her!" Paul this week: " I'm not going to get angry." Very disappointing, came for the conflict and got diet Vaush vs Panda Paul.

ounocat

Paul got called a tankie by a 14 year old on discord and he never recovered.

Bunyip04

Paul, I hope you see my post on the subreddit about the hug

Currently working towards a degree in Computer Science and completely agree. The general public has a poor understanding of AI. These language models are more comparable to extremely efficient/streamlined search engines that can infer user input as a way of providing useful information.

Zeaxe

The best part of this show was Paul admitting that he grew up with THE Niggadeemus.

Michael Sewell

Please do a RUSH LIMBOUGH vs VAUSH. I just feel that would be a great ep.

Mondo_Bruh

Oh wow I’d love to see that episode. If you manage to remember which one it is lmk.

john barton

They actually did a long segment on LOAB, forgot in which episode. As an artist I find AI art very interesting and encouraging to my imagination, especially the more odd things like LOAB.

john barton

As a professional oil painter, for what it's worth, I very much disagreed with Demon Mama's opinion on whether or not AI art can be considered art. I think the discussion on what is or isn't art is largely pointless, and I believe the primary thing that matters is how a piece makes you feel, or whether or not you appreciate it. Context and intent are important, but they aren't qualifiers for what is or isn't art. Her opinion on how it all looks like shit is entirely subjective, and I think actually irrelevant in the conversation. Disagreed with Paul on whether or not current AI is sentient, but I kind of see where he was going with it, down the line we will have to acknowledge it. Personally I find AI art fascinating, it's like I'm watching the dream of a primordial brain, directed by more developed brains. I hate the use of it in commercial art at times, but I don't feel too strongly about this, easy for me to say, I'm a primarily physical artist.

E.D.G.E.

Paul's AI takes are literally retarded jesus lol

ounocat

When will you guys upload the Paul and Vaush sex tape? We all know its happening.

Kyle

Paul I love you but speaking as someone with a degree in computer science who is currently working at an AI company that trains LLMs like ChatGPT, you have no idea what you’re talking about with AI and it is not at all conscious or close to being conscious. All AI is, to boil it down as simple as possible, is a series of mathematical functions. There is no independence, no thought, no development of neural pathways. Just a series of math functions, inputs, and outputs

Derek Morris

Paul genuinely is the most dishonest debate opponent ive ever seen. In a debate about trump and bush anytime he was losing he would just flip the argument and start attacking obama and biden. To win an argument no one was even having. Forcing demonmama into a completely separate conversation, just so Paul could switch back to Trump Bush when he was losing on that side of the argument. Randomly jumping to israel and gaza today, when losing on trans issues, randomly jumping to biden and the iran deal, when losing on the fact that trump pulled out of it. He is truthfully very skilled in a completely disgusting way.

Mondo_Bruh

It’s called LOAB if anyone wants to look into it , super interesting rabbit hole that leads to some weird AI anomalies

Mondo_Bruh

Through AI , a developer online was able to render the opposite of Al Pacino or some actor like that and render it visually. Now putting aside how weird that alone is, by putting that image into an ai and rendering the inverse it does not bring up Al Pacino, it brings up a weird abstract AI idea of Humanity put into visual form. Reversing that AGAIN makes what ai persevere to be the opposite of canny . AI art can convey emotion extremely well because now that AI thread is being used to demonstrate fear and bizarre uncanny essence. AI’s are extremely adept at visualizing emotions
