I don't think the "i hate my mom" stuff is incongruous with the mom-worship in media because that provides someone to compare your mom against to validate your dislike of your mom(at least in adolescent psychological state). In Edwin Mullins book The Painted Witch he talks about how in western art there is the idea of "the good woman"(such as the virgin mary) which acts as an ideal that you can contrast "the bad woman" against.
