Only 28 states mandate that ordained clergy must report child abuse, Paul. It gets even more complicated because only a few still require it for confessional in Roman Catholicism. I wish we would just extend mandatory reporting to every person no matter that circumstances except attorney-client privileged conversations since that’s protected under constitutional law. No one else should be exempt. Whether you’re related to the abuser or you’re a clergyman or a random person walking down a road. I don’t care. We need to do way more to protect children. I learned how terrible our reporting laws were while deconverting from Catholicism.
