Yup, I would probably knot it off somewhere in the armpit area depending on how much slack you have left.

It's a bit hard to describe. On your last loop around the torso, go under the arms/across the back instead of over the arms. Then go up and over one shoulder, down into the middle of the back, looping it around the torso loops, then back up over the other shoulder. (The ends of the rope are in the wrong spot in this drawing, but shh.)

You mean for the chest harness? The way I usually do it is start by doubling a 50'' length of rope in half and make a sort of lasso around the arms and torso. Then I do a couple of loops above and below the breasts (still going over the arms) before using the remainder to do the shoulder part.
