Thanks for the chapter, and future published Book 3 😉

A cats: always on a quest to bankrupt us. Lovely chapter!

DaShoe

This was a fantastic chapter. Thank you

Jordan A

I really hope that that special gem on the cat’s collar plays some significant role in the future. It really feels like this chapter was unnecessary unless that comes to pass.

Im a whole tier late, but i think the answer is to obviously get rid of [Advanced Hunting]. [Treasure sense] very likely as well, unless he can pull of a merger at lvl 75 or get it to yellow fast (unlikely). Next he should work hard to get [Blessed swimmer] to yellow and then drop it, with the intention of retaking it once he is out of school. As for skills he needs: a social skill and a broad "student"/"memory" skill sounds useful

Constantinos

I think a seeking skill that absorbs hunting and Treasure Sense would be usefull and something like dream library for memory.

Catherine

Where possible i think it would be better to merge his skills rather than drop them as almost all of them are very useful to him

I haven't ever gotten a notification for this story I don't think. Which I'm kinda grateful for .. I get kinda annoyed by the constant ones

Peter Smith

If he can combine treasure sense, hubting, and herbology, it could become wilderness tracking, especially if it takes up to spots instead of three. The other thing is if he combined them with hallowed intuition, blessed swimming, and body augmentation, he could make something like "sacred Pathfinding" where he instinctively knows the safest ways tobwhere he wants to go, and has the power to get there, all in one skill. Though it might require a full 100 favor.

Peter Smith

Mana Researcher.

Catherine

Can mana observer and mana analyst be combined?

Did anyone else not get a notification for this chapter? Didn't think it had come out until I went to check to see if the last chapter mentioned a delay

Fleisch

I feel like his swimmer and hunting skill would be good to drop. If he gets a memory skill he can probably get rid of his herbs skill.

Kris Piskorski

Treasure sense will be very useful for him after he graduates though

Catherine

Which chapter has his most recent skills list?

George

it's only been a week

Mohit

How about getting rid of a yellow skill? Does he really use all of his enchanting skills?

M_Lo

He needs to retain blessed swimmer I am sure it could be helpful for his path of a water mage and its part of his identity as the chosen of the spirits. It would be a shame to let it go

Natbite

Dropping Treasure Sense for a social skill seems like the smart choice. Kai is currently the only unarmed person in a social battle royale. He has no defence against other people's social skills. Is there a skill that helps getting the most out of using minor affinities, like his fire magic? That kind of skill might be worth getting while he's studying magic. I'd swap Advanced Hunting for something like that. Blessed Swimmer seems like a little used luxury at the moment, but It'd be sad to see it go. 😢 It's so symbolic of his life in the isles. And he'd never be able to feel safe going into the sea without it - losing it would basically mean losing the ocean.

Joseph Gratian

This paragraph confused me too.

Sa Manta

Amount of money spent on the cat > Amount of money spent on the family XD

Apep

„ For a second, Kai hoped his familiar would be too lazy to move without Space Magic. Alas, the gods had no mercy. Stretching his paws with no hurry, Hobbes nimbly stood to check the materials. “ the beginning sounds like he blinked but then he didn’t.

Robert

If green skills are based off the paths and skills you take as well as your professions then maybe before deciding anything Kai needs to research some paths. I think the obvious thing to do is get rid of treasure sense, advanced hunting and maybe blessed swimmer. Also I think go all in on enchanting. If so try and raise alchemy to yellow and then drop both it and herbalism. Maybe add a construct enchanting skill? Create utility constructs to help with things? A memory skill and social skill makes sense but are there skills around speeding up casting, overpowering casting, chain casting or maybe even a skill to "hang" spells for later use? It does make me wonder how green skills work. Does water magic just become better water magic? or are their specialized skills based on water concepts like reflection? Can you combine multiple elements in a combined skill? What about a skill combining space magic and blessed intuition to create some sort of weird fate space blend.

Brett

Also, did I miss Kai hitting yellow 2? I’m thinking that his skills would have popped him super close or over the top of finishing yellow 1. He was only 15k away his mana skills and split mind must have advanced, same with water magic. Same with the profession skill; natural prodigy…

Disclancer

I know its probably a bit late for Kai but I feel he's going to need a chanting skill, it's going to have to come up as part of his formal education sooner or later, it's going to be hard enough explaining how he's never used any language of power before at all.

Brett

I was also wondering if herbology could be combined with alchemy. Maybe Kai could evolve both alchemy and treasure sense separately and have them pick up both sides of herbology, the finding/retrieving and using the ingredients/understanding their purpose after. I also wonder if there’s a way to merge magic skills, or broaden runic scholar with other skills so it still encompasses runes and other magics - maybe evolve it into something for problem/puzzle solving and retention.

Fleisch

This mind palace could also help with split mind which would mean he could drop the skill.

Fleisch

Why?

Adurna

Could treasure sense be merged into herbalism for a wider harvesting skill? Drop a bit of the knowledge aspect and push that onto a memory skill?

Adurna

Memory first, but yes having at least one should be a goal down the line. He does have enough money and friends to coast on for now however.

Brett

I think Kai fights against taking social skills. It’s not in his nature unless it’s for subterfuge. He is very practical and he is far older than his age. I think he would be less inclined to take social skills to fit in. It’s not a concern of his and he wants to slink by not get in peoples good graces. That puts more focus on him.

Brett

Treasure sense was a huge help for Kai, all his success and wealth has really developed from that, I can’t see him getting rid of it because once he’s through school, he would have to redevelop that skill. He’s got longer-term focus. I think he’s more likely to try and merge skillsto create room.

noel meehan

Surely treasure seeker and advanced hunting have to be dropped

Catherine

He needs a social skill. Doesn't really matter what it is but his old teacher said he should have one and from what I've seen i agree. He'll be at a huge disadvantage with the Patricians without one and most likely forever considered a country bumpkin

Adurna

Needs a memory skill to pick up the slack for his lack of other support skills as well as to keep track of general knowledge. Synergy is extra high since he has several fields he dabbles in. Drop hunting, most likely treasure sense as well. Blessed swimmer could be worth keeping or dropping depending on how many excursions are expected. If he could push it to also boost other movement and merge for flying down the line that could be interesting. Bottom line: if he drops it he can still pick it up at lvl1 and level it faster with his then presumably higher stats.

kiewitz

As many people say stuff for treasure hunting, normal hunting and possibly swimming is not really useful or something he can train right now, it would be interesting if he took something like writing or memoization even if he's not sure whether to keep it. He could earn some quick xp, make his academy work easier and once he levels the skills to yellow - he'll have yellow skills in his archive which shouldn't be a bad thing. Though it's interesting whether all the powerful people in green and up with, from what I understand, centuries of lifespan commonly respec a couple of times during their lives? Like the academy principal, let's say he started as a young noble that got into the academy, he would probably discard some orange skills while in there to shore up his build, there were some mentions of ruins he visited so perhaps he got some skills for that to become an adventurer archeologist, later he got settled and probably did something else for a while (his own research maybe) before becoming the principal he is now, what certainly requires at least a couple of specialized skills he wouldn't need before. It could be an interesting class divide between the poor people on orange, maybe lower yellow that have mostly the same skills for their whole lives and are stuck in their position while a noble that reaches green relatively young will keep several skills related to their general station and class/profession they have, ie. mana sensing and manipulation skills, etiquette and rotate around half of their status when they take on a new job or enterprise every 3 or 4 decades.

Should absolutely keep blessed swimmer

An Than

Thank you for the chapter! I definitely think Kai should drop treasure sense and advanced hunting, they're just not that useful anymore. Blessed swimmer could probably be chopped as well, although like with meditation, it was one of his first skills so it makes me a little sad to see it go. Maybe it could merge with water magic? I don't know how that'll work but some similar skills could merge together, like mana observer and mana analyst? For skills that Kai could take, now that he's in school, some kind of memory or information processing skill would definitely help. We've seen with that guide fundamentals class that he could get overwhelmed with all of this new information so something to help with that would go a long way.

A B

Edit suggestion: I even didn’t -> I didn't even

Jim

I think he needs a memory/mental skill. One that pairs well with split mind would be great. Something like Mind Palace which could be used to help defend against mental skills, remember everything he’s experienced (maybe even in his first life), and simulate his crafting abilities in his mind. Obviously he’d have to start with a lower skill and evolve it to that eventually.

George

swimmer and hunting should go, then depending how many skills he's interested in taking, either treasure sense or his two enchanting skills - you keep the color but reset the level right? so he'd lose too much shelving alchemy I think it's worth being bold here since he's so stressed out about living up to standards and he might end up needing these spots for green skills anyway as far as what to take, it's hard to know what's possible but I think he needs a movement skill like dodging or running and he probably needs two skills for existing in a competitive academy with complex rules, even if they are practical ones like memorization and attention to detail type of things - guessing his way through for 5 years among all this wealth and power with his secrets is extremely dangerous

Ottstop

Pets truly are money pits, huh

Schuh

It seems to me like Blessed Swimmer just isn't really doing anything at this point. Unless he's planning to visit the siren cities it would be logical to drop it even though it is a rare skill. Maybe he could merge the different elemental magic skills into one big general elemental skill that takes up like 3 slots. That would help with the minor affinities.
