I'm hoping that the next chapter will both demonstrate Kai's relative proficiency and maturity when he sincerely thanks the professor for the beat-down and begs for another chance to spar and learn. Kai is proud, but is used to being outclassed by his mentor, and above all values improvement and levels over his social standing amongst students.

Lets be honest...Kai isnt going to make 3 or 4 years in a university. Rain is most likely royalty. Someone will come for him. Kai will go with Rain prior to finishing his degree

We dont know Kai's dad side of the family. Just that he was sorta disowned. He very well could be or it was just a tease

Interesting question, how far ahead can Kai plan? At an OTL university, a student can look at the course catalog and at least plan his next four years, assuming they know what they are majoring in. Kai should be planning his entire period of study at Raelion around where he wants to be at the end. Unless he is actually planning to take Advanced Chanting in his third or fourth year, he should leave Chanting for the last year, if he takes it at all. The course on familiars is not only more useful to him, it is more useful now.

Kia's? It's mid orange. 5/10 something like that. His real limit is that he needs to get all his class skills to yellow and they are also (level 18-26) low orange.

But he’s gonna need blessed swimmer upgraded to hang out with his fish buddy at the bottom of the sea. But yeah I understand him wanting and potentially needing a decent understanding of what it is, but I agree he should drop it. He’s being a little overly stubborn on certain things trying to learn everything. Maybe a little ptsd still, believing everything he doesn’t know can kill him.

Ugh, this end, I want the next chapter so much more than I wanted to read about his classes, not that it doesn’t fit here. Also you seem to have some very trusting readers in the comments I’m with Jolene on him dropping chanting for all the reasons she stated as well as the reason Vyrya didn’t teach him. It gives away where you learned, not a big added negative, but still something.

I prefer her understated initial response. I know it doesn’t give fan service to approval of what Kai has accomplished but she would play everything very close to the vest to not give him a bloated ego. The greatest danger that patricians have - and she’s witnessed their downfall for decades…

I think Jolene's updated response was a bit too much crammed into just 3 paragraphs. This seems uncharacteristic of her, shes typically quite cryptic and professional, this kinda destroys this image of her. I totally imagined we would see a short pov of her this chapter though. Hope he wises up and takes words of power later in his schooling (if ever). While he might benefit from learning how others use words of power, I don’t see any 2 skills worth dropping to pick up something he won’t use. The only skill I thought might be viable would be blessed swimmer.

Not sure I would want to lay it all out on the table for a teacher you don't know that we'll either. Yes she could help, but she is also in a position to hurt (not that i think she would), and there are always loop holes.

He doesn’t intend to actually get any help with his familiar because that’d risk revealing Hobbes’ species. And Hobbes is unique enough any information he would receive from the class is likely of limited value. Chanting however ties into Kai’s desire to learn all facets of magic, even if it’s maybe not in his best interests

Thanks for the chapter. I can just imagine him cursing. His most anticipated class and the first words are his professor outing him. Also, why would he keep chanting and drop the class about magical familiars?
