I think hes picking it up when he and rain swim while practicing water magic. But id love a subconscious application until that rain let's persist till he stops finding it funny. Might be a fun indirect teaching of a family secret. After all if he learned it just from sparring me the i didnt tell him anything.

i think the point is that they aren’t good at team fighting yet lol
Alex
Hobbes had one he killed cultists.on the ship and with their bond Kai can learn too
Alias
Does Kai have an offense Space option? I can’t remember. But something like a “dimension cut” could be an awesome new addition.
Nana
I dunno if anyone's brought it up, but the mana ripping of Kai's Earth spells also happened during his duel with Ambrose New avenue of magic to learn from Rain? Some flavor of domain/intent/will in spells to strengthen weaves and tear up intruding spells?
Halfcrzy
But too much fluff this chapter. We ended last chapter announcing team sparring, then it took half this one before they started. Kicked out half the team in a paragraph to make it an interesting 1v1 which isnt the point of a team fight.
Catherine
I have a question about how empowering works. "Earth mana wrapped around his arms and sword, doubling their power." Does using the mana protect his body from the backlash of his arms being stronger but not his back and shoulders? Or legs for that matter? Strength and control in a sword fight is not limited to the arms. So, if one part of his body is strengthened does that not put strain on the rest of his body?
Thomas Adams
Rain knows about a few of Kai's abilities he'd probably never willingly use in public without the stakes being significantly higher. So he knows about space magic, but there's that mimic ability. On the extreme end of things, I don't think Hobbes would ever show up for a spar.

I wonder if 'everything' is solely relating to kai not using his space magic or if there's something else he was holding back
Thomas Adams
Ah the duo oblivious to the norms of the world they live in put their foot in it again, something tells me neither will really enjoy that much attention.

“No, wait!” Kai grabbed him before he could move a step. “Sorry. I was joking. You’ll do a fine job.” suggested edit “No, wait!” Kai grabbed him before he could move a step. “Sorry. I was just thinking. You’ll do a fine job.” // Kia hasn't said anything, an actual joke or even any criticism.

If you do the math from a few chapters ago a team of 8 can have up to one Ranks 11-100 member from the winter trial. Kia, if he formed his own team could only have 7 members... I think. I'll double check and edit if I'm off. Edit: Yup, teams with high rankers will have less than 8 members. The sweet spot is probably around 6 members in a normal year but with Rain and Kia on the team I think they'll do fine (Sorry Flynn and new girl).

Thanks for the chapter
Sébastien Kingsbury
You know, 8 vs 4 still doesnt sound fair to the other teams when they start facing off at this point

I admire Rain"s complete rejection of subterfuge, beyond allowing others to wallow in their preconceptions. He's all outta fucks to give.

Great chapter, thanks very much! :-)

Thanks for the chapter. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the class reacts to seeing a four person team beat all the other teams, even those with the full eight members.

There are three adjectives that describe Kai in a nutshell. Secretive, oblivious, and stubborn. One that each of his friends either personifies or has special relationship to with him. Flynn was always the secretive one in their relationship, Rain permanently turns Kai's stubborn competitiveness on so much so that he forgets to keep his secrets, and Valela well oblivious is only the right way to describe that relationship.
Brett
And if they get reviewed the response should be that instead of testing rain with the “weaker” members they should have tested with the strongest member, adding the weaker members to overwhelm him once he was fully engaged. Leading with the weaker members who can get outclassed leads to dead party members.
Brett
A style choice, maybe “she’s too early” rather than “she’s too fast”
Brett
Well, I’m curious about is the professors opinions comparing these first years to older students. Flynn Kai and rain have a legit experience versus real opposition. Kai’s training with the Butler would have bled into any training. He did with Flynn prior to going to the school and rain’s training would have been similar. That would put them noticeably far apart from the other students
Brett
The good part of this is that rain also showed his ability. Rain’s nonchalance towards showing the breadth of his capabilities well, hopefully force Kai not to hold back, which will speed his growth even further.
Boo
Like he pointed out himself he’s been busy bent over books and practicing magic. He’s also been living in a cushy academy for rich kids instead of living in the wilderness and dodging higher grade beasts. Hobbes is the worst offender by far though! That cat has only grown more and more pampered. He’s got them all at his beck and call.
JKlarinet
Way to keep the rumors quiet Kai! Great job! Why don’t you give it up, eh?
Arrogant Savant
Kai really must've been slacking off if he's lost stamina he built as a survivalist.

Thanks for the chapter. A couple of typos: "Her role was to prod and the handsome teen busy" Missing the word 'keep'. Should be 'and keep the handsome teen busy' I believe. "The word narrowed down" Should be 'world' not word
