Upcoming Changes to those using Patreon through the iOS App Store.
🕑 Added 2024-08-16 12:24:06 +0000 UTCI don't know if you all have received any notifications, but a few days ago, Patreon sent out emails. Starting November 1st, those using the Patreon App through the iOS App Store will pay 30% more than usual. Apple did this to receive more income, and Patreon had to comply, or their app would be removed from the App Store.
This doesn't affect existing subscribers and will not affect you if you use Patreon through any other means like a Laptop or anything else that doesn't use the Patreon App downloaded through the App Store.
I don't know yet if using the iPhone's Web Browser will affect anything. It should be okay, but I just don't know.
As I said, if you are already a subscriber, this doesn't affect you, but for new subscribers after the First of November, don't use the Patreon App through the App Store.

Gotcha I already do that I go through browser to follow and pay through PayPal so none of it goes through the app I only use app to read

If you subscribe through a PC, then use the app to read/watch the content. I think you should be fine, but I would check just in case after the first of November.

One easy fix is to use Patreon through a web browser, sign in to your account, subscribe to whoever you want, and read or watch their content. This 30% thing works if you use the Patreon App, which was downloaded through the App Store.

I’m wondering if we can sub through other means then use the app to access the content. If that is possible then all is good if not then that’s fudged.

That’s only if I pay through iOS app right? Like PayPal is what takes the money not ios so would that effect me I’m clearly dumb and not understanding Is it like their gonna force you to pay through the iOS app or if I pay through PayPal I can by pass that I only use the app to read who I’m subscribed to..

After this 30% thing is enforced on the Patreon App in the App Store on November 1st, you should use a different method if you want to subscribe to new people.

Only Patreon App downloaded through the App Store. All the other ways of using Patreon are totally fine.

If you downloaded the app through the App Store and you are using it on an iPhone or iPad, you will get the extra 30%, but those who are already subscribers are not affected.

I mean it is still possible to subscribe via browser from PC or even if iPhone web browser is compromised you could still use a different browser on iOS. Like Firefox.
