Thx for the chapter

Well, give them a break. People do tend to turn stupid in a disaster situation even in real life. No matter how smart they are or how good their judgement is in every day life, when put into a life threatening crisis, a lot of them panic and tend to follow whoever acts like they know the way to safety. Even if that person end up leading them off of a cliff. There's been plenty of real life examples there. That's what makes Carter worthy of the protagonist position. Because he able to stay cool and use his head even when the world has just turned upside down. It's easy to say, but surprisingly few people manage it in actual practise.

Marvin

Craig will get his reckoning! And a few people like Benjamin are already thinking about what a future with Craig in charge would look like.

Marvin

Yeah. I won’t open that path up until Carter does something truly awesome.

Loukemia

Unlocking skills and feats/perks via achievements is also a way to add more. Min-maxing is an extreme of specialization. I think specialization can be useful though. In the heat of the moment in a disaster people may scramble to whatever they can to stay alive. Also, any idiot who can't see what Craig is doing deserves his petty rule. Carter should realize after that confrontation it'll be safer outside.

DiabolicalGenius

Sounds good to me! Though not something just anyone can do. Especially from the outset, you'd have to focus on a speciality while keeping the rest of your stats from lagging too far behind. Until he finds a method to reliably max them all out.

Marvin

Yeah. That could work. And I do think having only 1 life is a strong argument for a balanced build over minmaxing. Of course, since this is one of my novels there has to be a way to simply have more stats in everything across the board and max out that way.

DiabolicalGenius

Looks like Craig has been putting all his points into strength and charisma, then dumping everything else. I see that coming back to bite him in the ass soon. Especially vitality. Everyone here needs to at least pop an occasional point there if they don't want to die the moment a monster gets a hit. Even if you specialise in evasion, you'll get unlucky sometime. While he's pumping everything into being big and buff, and the ability to awe and impress other people so he can play king of the hill while being made of paper. He might be able to pack a mean punch, but with the introduction of profciencies, he'll have no proficiency in any melee attack that would benefit from strength since he's relying completely on the gun. Plus I'm betting high that the System may have let him have a way to make the gun work, but isn't providing proficiency in weapons that do all the work for you. Or general proficiency in ranged weapons similar to Carter's "Neutral Mana Proficiency" that improves his aim but does nothing for damage. Those who are struggling now will watch their attacks get more and more effective while his bullets are stuck only ever doing as much damage as they do now while he's running out of bullets. I can see how his little kingdom will end. His levelling will slow once he runs low on bullets and can't find more, he'll force his recruits to do all the fighting while he hoards the last clip, except the gun is more to keep his people in line now than kill monsters and since he isn't levelling anymore he'll feel threatened and get rid of any guy whose level approaches his own. It's a dead end. Carter just has to bide his time. It going to be satisfying to watch his house of cards crumble. I like the proficiencies. Here Skills don't level up and automatically get stronger with use, you just learn to handle them better and proficiencies level up instead and support your actions including skills. As for feats, if they work as you say then you could get away with inserting one or two in the earlier chapters. Depending on how many stats they add and where. Otherwise they can be unlocked after level 10 when you get your class. Could be the system wanting to keep things simple for single digit levels, ease people into it and keep the criteria for their first class title less cluttered. Or something like that. Whatever you think works best with how the System does things.
