Marvin

Good question. It's because I added it late during editing to replace something else. I remembered to delete the thing it was replacing, but forgot to add in something about hemorrhage. I will get to it before the book's final draft.

Dr. Redbush

You list out the spell: Hemorrhage (Epic), but then it’s not mentioned at all afterwards in Carters thoughts or final list. It seems to synergize well with his other crit rate spell so I’m curious why it was omitted right after mentioning it?

Sorahn

Hello, new to this Patreon. Love the series and the depth and world building. I always love reading about all the considerations going into upgrades and how Carter thinks about it. I was just surprised that there did not seem to be any thoughts involving what would be most helpful for the continued Earth integration struggle. For example, when the tutor questions the utility of Conversion, my immediate thought was potentially how useful that could be during future integration phases in theory. Just a thought, can’t wait to see what else is to come!

Jon Erwin

Cap Stone Skill are always nice or Signature Skill to boost the power the ones he chooses to use in there would be cool.

b bor

That’s normal, I’ll try to comment more and see if that helps.

Marvin

Nice to hear a counter-voice. Normally I only hear from readers when they are upset about something, so I have a tendancy to overcorrect and ruin things people liked.

Marvin

Such a book may be too mighty to contain a mere skill.

whyme943

By all genre rules he will be. A small part of me hopes he’s just a random, delusional homeless man even though that would be bad for the book.

Caffinated1

Ahh but what mighty skill will Carter learn from Mage King Ted's book?

b bor

I think S Grade should be god level… then SS and SSS

b bor

Maybe upon getting to A-Grade… instead of getting new slots the system allows for easy skill combinations that can increase in grade through synergy. Maybe they can have a certain amount of combinations

b bor

Marvin, I would not worry about about how long it takes to pick skill as they are some of the most interesting chapters. Also, I feel like you should go back to showing proficiency levels like before. I personally miss those. I am assuming that skill combinations would be a good way to shorten the skill list. I am glad he is finally creating skill books for his spell. I feel like it with all the wars he is immersed in he would benefit greatly. Also, it would be great seeing how his proficiency increases because of it.

Adam

Carter has it, not Ted.

jmundt33a

Don’t think he has that. Might be as close to what he was searching for as anything in existence under the System.

Adam

Yeah, Ted didn’t mention the Scepter of the Supreme Patriarch.

jmundt33a

It’ll be one heck of a book.

George Clark

Or make it so that A grade is where his forbidden knowledge class can no longer use skills and he has to start creating his own from what he has.

Marvin

The real trick will be for Carter and Herius to “win” even if their side is defeated.

jmundt33a

Sure seems like it. Also seems like Carter’s in a better family position than Ted was way back when.

jmundt33a

Yes, that’s tactically inadvisable, but it seems worse than that. He’s fighting Black Beast cultivators who want to harvest resources which include turning normal people is to monsters as a side effect. But they’re fighting alongside people who care just as little about Ladwick as Black Beast does. Which means that they’ll have to defeat cultivators and then their own allies to truly liberate the planet (thus succeeding). And they’re coming in small and under armed and under armored. That’s a BIG ask.

Marvin

Yeah, something like that. The Prince has lots of training, but he doesn’t have Carter’s real world experience.

jmundt33a

He’s dropping himself into a two-front war Leonidas-style for some kind of System brownie points. Yikes. Maybe Carter can talk to him after they skirmish with both sides?

Marvin

No relation. She just has control over a System node. Prince Herius is basically raising a crusader army to defend a holy site. Glacia is independent. Prince Herius could pillage Ladwick himself if he wanted to.

ArbabSB

What is the relationship between Glacia and the tyrant Architect from one version of the epilpgue. Like why is Prince Herius of Glacia leading an army to recapture one of the architect's vassal worlds. Are they allies? Is Glacia a vassal of that Architect?

jmundt33a

So, he’ll be working to combine all the Dragon skills only when he learns the ultimate. God-King Ted, and Soul Emperor Carter. Interesting family.

Vorsayo

Find out next time on DRAGON BALL Z 😂

Marvin

Carter will just have to do a little more prep work with aethersmithing monster cores on Doomseeker. He has much more magical dexterity through his job than Power of Nature ever granted him.

ArbabSB

My sympathies for having to keep track of all of this, but the new skills you've chosen are interesting. I agree with the others who've mentioned combining similar skills to make some broader and versatile skills to reduce the number that need to be kept track of. For example the other 3 dragon skills (eye, skin, blood) could be combined, if some of the luck and charisma skills could be combined that be great (e.g. diplomat's charm has some overlap with pacify, direct order and conversion so maybe they could be combined for a general persuasion/command skill). A couple of questions: since Power of Nature has been replaced and Carter didn't take Elemental Convergence, does that mean he can't utilize elemental mana as easily? And how does Elemental Phalanx work, how is does it choose which element will be used?

Marvin

Yeah, good ideas.

Marvin

Thanks for reading!

Marvin

Yeah, I was thinking a bit along those lines.

Marvin

Maybe!

Marvin

We will know before the end of the book!

Marvin

Yeah. I have a few ideas in mind. I think that instead of giving more skill slots, A-Grade will give 4 “super skills.” Or something with a better name.

whyme943

WRT the stat blocks problem, maybe about now is when you can have Carter “Evolve Beyond” the system, at least in terms of stats? Alternatively, some kind of powerful bonus that prevents him just learning from spell books? I like the current system as a hypothetical RPG, and I feel Carter is very much a “power gamer” who won’t pass up a chance to optimize. To me, that only leaves ‘changing systems’ as a solution to the too many abilities problem. Or maybe an ability that takes multiple slots, or just more passive abilities.

WhiteRabbit

I like that his reaction to "you may involuntarily turn into a dragon" is "could be worse I guess". Maybe Eldritch dragon?

Vorsayo

Great chapter. So Ted is the Wizard Emperor?

Adam

So, Ted is the king rather than the theorycrafter?

SiI3nt

Thanks for the chap mate. I do have a suggestion for Carters abilities. What about as he breaks through to B grade and eventually A grade, combine skills that couldn't have been combined to make a new skill or something to help reduced the amount of skills and have better skills that may or may not be entirely new. Just my suggestion, still a great series so far

Robert Layer

One suggestion for A grade is to use combined skills sets instead of skills like a master. For example mana mastery allowing Carter to dump all his mana skills and just use mana almost however he wants too be it his mana barrage or armor. Would let you cut down the skill list and provide him a massive advantage as he wouldn't be limited to skill so much as how he chose to use said mastery. It would also make sense as A grade is almost god like in there mastery.

Cdonovan

Thanks for the chapter!
