ASSET: Monorail Train
🕑 Added 2020-03-13 20:52:51 +0000 UTCI'm really pleased with how this model turned out, and it was surprisingly straightforward! I didn't do a screen capture or anything, but if anyone's curious I could do a quick breakdown video.
The one thing that bugs me; I really should have given it a door :P
But the rest of it I'm pretty pleased with. It's a bit of a combination of a bullet train and, like, a bus or something. And even if you're not into the train, the wheels could be useful! Not rigged, but a lot of times they don't have to be.
Here's a link! (gotta figure out why the patreon upload doesn't seem to be working)
Use it in/for anything!
Also note: Updated the file because the lights were using textures from a friend's texture pack, and I totally hadn't noticed! It's a great pack, by the way :D

right click, save link as > and it will give you the blend file. You'll also have to tell chrome to keep it if you use chrome because chrome will say its possibly malicious due to the method of download is easily interceptible.

Anyone having issues downloading: Right-click the link > Copy Link Address > Paste in New Tab. Failing that: Right-click link > Open Link in Incognito Tab, then refresh the incognito page page.
Hey, I don't know why, but some links here are kinda weird. You need to right click on it and press "save link" for it to download properly.
Sorry to bother you,Ian.But the link for the train is broken.
Hey, Ian Link for the train is broken :<
I'm probably on "The Late Freight" but I WOULD love to see your breakdown of this. The workflow fascinates me!
heyy, can we get the train rails with the stands :) I love it!

Shoot, I'm just scrolling and scrolling down this endless hole of goodness, appreciate the shout-out! :]
ya same here
Anyone else having trouble with the download link? It opens a tab with loads of gibberish

I'll see what I can do! It's basically just an HDRI with a bunch of little point/spot lights scattered around, but I could explain my thinking a bit!
Would love to see a video of how you lit your scene after that really cool marshmallow modelling video!

So looking forward to seeing Dynamo Dream!

All of your work is so inspiring, I wanna get back into blender and 3D photobash an entire world!!!

Emotion Police! hahaha! And yeah, in the context of the scene, I just figured the door was always "on the other side of the train" (although we DEFINITELY see both sides over the course of the scene). I dig the idea that some part opens up. The lighting/composition stuff- that's totally a thing I want to do a video on, if I can figure it out! It's way trickier though... Modeling and texturing definitely has a big element of personal aesthetic to it, but lighting so often just comes down to looking at the scene and being like, "I don't like that" and then trying to figure out why (which can be crazy hard to answer, haha). And like 90% of it is just figuring out how to build the whole scene/lighting with composition in mind (and I feel like half of the challenge of composition is just figuring out some way of conveying depth information). It's some tricky beans!
I freaking love the feel of all of this scene; Equilibrium! This train is the emotion police! The door could be the window section pivot open vertically? Picking up the skills for the train is one thing, the scene and lighting around it is a whole other starship, and THATS what I need. I'm gonna go take the damn 'Anvill' tutorial again, I've forgot all the shortcuts -)

WOOO!
Olof Friström
Oooh I already have like five uses for it

Incredible man! Any way we could get a break down of the whole scene or possibly some building assets?
Ian Hubert
Cool! I'll put one together later this afternoon! I'm pretty stoked actually, because it's just the same few techniques over and over.
