More Digital Extension Work (Poor Audio)
🕑 Added 2024-02-28 22:13:18 +0000 UTCA bit of a continuation of the last video; another example of what I've been doing over and over the past month! Taking footage, projecting it, and messing with it. Also a few other little breakdowns and stuff scattered in.
Turns out it was using the wrong microphone, so the audio is bad, but not toooooooo bad I think?
Here's the Camera Projector Node Nathan made

Just subdivide the cube and bring out two points near the corners with proportional editing and then squish them together

Please post the concrete assets thing :)

you probably need to change the aspect ratio
Ian Hubert
Actually okay so- I did a test and it looks like it works if you go into the shader editor, and in the "Aspect Ratio" field of the Camera Project Node type "1080/1920" (or whatever your width and height resolutions are, respectively), it should give you the right aspect ratio! https://drive.google.com/file/d/16-jihejg7BTek_yjomQ33jhc8jRu_inp/view?usp=sharing
Ian Hubert
Ooooooo- you know what we might not have thought of that. I'll try it out and check with Nathan.
Ian Hubert
Oh! So "Filmic" is just for how it looks in the viewport (it rolls off the highlights a bit nicer than "standard")- but since my final export is going to be an EXR sequence (which just gives you linear data), it really doesn't matter what I'm working in. If I were exporting to a different format like jpg or png, I'd probably hop over to AGX, yeah :D

Hey Ian, thank you so much for your amazing tutorials! However, I can’t get the Camera Project Node to work with vertical footage. Anyone with a solution?

Hello Ian! Thank you for sharing those great workflows! BTW, is there any reason that you're using flimic instead of AGX ? I just wonder why because I heard that AGX color management system provide more detailed color information.! Thank you :)
Ben
Ian, can you do a video about world building? Would love to hear your thoughts on the process of creating worlds like the ones you make.

Thanks for the reply Ian, I'll give Fusion another shot. I downloaded it when you first mentioned using it, but my knee jerk reaction was that it wasn't at all intuitive based on my past experience. Maybe I just need to give it more of a chance.
James
I am so glad you mentioned this again I thought I imagined it. I have been trying to make my own assets for this sort of stuff and failing. If you could share it I would be super grateful x
Chromfell
love the distant funfair the most actually!! lol
Ian Hubert
Oh yeah! I'll get into it at some point! Though mostly it's just me importing the EXR sequence into the timeline, then in the color panel converting it into the same color space/gamma as my original footage so I can grade it all together.
Nathanael Fairbotham
For converting your footage in resolve you do all that in your timeline settings now, so all the footage in that timeline would be automatically converted

Bring on the butt cube optimization tutorial lol
Ian Hubert
HAHA! I'll have to optimize it. It is a shockingly unoptimized butt cube.
Ian Hubert
AH YEAH! Actually the reason I never uploaded it (or most of the dozens of things I've been meaning to upload) is because I wanted to go out and get a big variety more of pine needles. I'll try to do it this weekend.
Ian Hubert
I need to look into Affinity! I haven't even heard of it, but people keep mentioning them! And Fusion's been a nice replacement for AE, actually- feels more powerful and- it seems- hotkey centric, which I love in the long term but definitely trickier to learn. I'm slowly appreciating the nodes-based approach instead of layers.
Mack Lawrence
can we add the startup cube with the butt as an asset offered here on patreon lol i laugh everytime i see it

Watching you staring at a cube with the gaze of a dead man was the most inspirational moment of my day. 😉 You may pingpong loop it and make a 4h video out of it like david f. Sandberg. Mb call it "one simple step for instant photorealism". This is pure evil!😃

Have you ever thought about streaming some of this type content on twitch or YouTube?? I think people would enjoy the ability to interact and ask questions as you make a shot! I know I would
Ian Hubert
OH!! Dang I wish I'd known that yesterday! I'll give that a shot. Yeah, especially for stuff like this, I'd love a "make the audio better" tool. Thanks for that!
Ian Hubert
HAHA!!! Yes! I literally had an entire little spiel in the video about how the number 4 was actually a pretty cool shape, compositionally (and wanted to design a spaceship interior based around the shape 4), but figured that would be just insane hahaha!
Clyde Duensing III
Awesome tutorial and plugin! Really looking forward to the dumping Adobe vid. I've pretty much done that myself since they started subscriptions. I've been using the Affinity apps in replacement and I've found them quite good, although I'd love an After Effects killer, one that blends the same kind of ease of use and power. Been getting by with the Blender compositor, which isn't too bad, but obviously requires everything to be hand built, and makes layering way more complicated than AE. Fortunately I took a course on Shake back in the day, so I have a decent handle on the node-based approach, but I'll never be a genius at it.
Kyle Gallagher
Don't forget to put up those pine needles!

Hell yea new episode !
Daniel Smith
The composition of the shot looks like a 4, it’s the 4th episode of Dynamo. I see what you did there 👁️👁️

if your audio gets messed up again try running it through the adobe ai voice enhancer web app. I think they’re going to integrate it into premiere in the next version but for now it’s stand alone web app. it works amazingly well most of the time. i’ve saved a ton of web seminar videos for clients and it’s always impressive hearing their audio go from laptop mic sound to near studio mic quality. you just upload it then redownload the new version it spits back out.

Loved this video! Really excited to see the part 2. Don't forget to show your process to get it back into Resolve I think it would be a great value !
Richard Cave
all the crazy kids are doing their audio out of pringle tube, you trend setter, thank you so much for the cam node, I am doing a sci fi film and it will be used to the inch of its life, thank you
Hairynscary
Can’t wait to start messing with this. Always appreciate the effort you put into these tutorials.

Nice!!! looking forward!!!

Dope boy here. Very happy to see a new video being uploaded . // dopeboy out
