Designing a Coin
🕑 Added 2025-08-01 06:30:20 +0000 UTCWe've been making a bunch of little props like this for the next episode, so I've been doing a lot of stuff like this! I think it's a blast, but I'm starting to realize I could very happily do this for years instead of actually getting around to filming anything...

You should look at swiss currency (bills especially), where every 5 (or 10? i don’t remember) years they do a competition and a vote to chose the new bills, there are a lot of crazy entries each time so lots of idea there. Anyway good video! Always a pleasure to watch these!

Hey Ian, I'd love to see more of your workflow around water. I know you said you've used dynamic paint, but the new stuff you've shown where you're using real wakes mixed up with displacement or something This looks amazing, I want to know more 👀

Applying modifiers individually and texts etc - select all and convert to mesh will apply modifiers and make texts into mesh. (Alt C to convert to mesh if you want the shortcut) Great vid!

Hi Ian, I wonder if this could be a good candidate for a collab with Alec Steele (https://www.youtube.com/@AlecSteele). He's a metallurgist/blacksmith/forging youtuber recently interested in stamping coins, and 3D printing with metal powders. He collaborates with other youtubers as well.

I really like the coin in the beginning with the jagged edge. With the euro you can feel by size and edge whether it’s a euro or fifty cents and I’m guessing that’s what you did there?
