Ayane's High Kick | KYOTO VIDEO
🕑 Added 2023-02-12 22:00:04 +0000 UTCBy the late 90s, the allure of the OVA format was beginning to wane and one prominent victim of this sea change was Ayane's High Kick; a kickboxing anime that shows us that the direct-to-video market had grown more fickle than it had in the 80s.

The real loss of the OVA implosion was "Mighty Space Miners" which only got to episode 2 of 6. For al of Miner's faults (a hero who doesn't realize he's in a hard SF story for one), it looked great and had some neat ideas. This one, just never gets anywhere, and is probably the dullest entry in Yuko Miyamura's non-Eva resume (here she's just basically handed an old-form Megumi Hayashibara role and turned loose). Miyamura's great strength is getting depth behind what seem like simple (usually loud and/or edgy) roles. This show just wastes her.
