I really try to express as much of the materials as I can while still keeping a smooth and silvery finish to the drawings. I think this style of value painting is also a great approach to photo studies.

I keep looking at these and seeing how soft the transitions are with the values. How do you control it so well? Do you place one value down first and then go in and adjust? Or go straight for it ?
