EARLY ACCESS // car sketches
🕑 Added 2021-06-28 09:00:03 +0000 UTCTime to step out of my comfort zone! I always struggle with things that have straight shapes and a heavy mass. My art tends to turn out very flowy and light, so drawing cars is very much the opposite of my aesthetic! But it is something I want to get better at. Here are some car studies in which I tried to capture their look but also stylize and exaggerate them a bit so that they felt like ‘my style’. I have mixed feelings about the end result but it was definitely fun to do!

Loish
haha i love that you see so much movement in that one!
Loish
not annoying at all! i struggled so much with the perspective on that one, so the criticism is definitely more than fair.
Loish
absolutely! i have a bunch of recordings that I still need to edit & render, but I'll definitely be posting more next month!
Loish

So cool. The red van is my favourite (love the texture) 🧡 I would never guessed you struggled with these and I love how easily recognizable these cars are as your work, even if its not your usual art subject.

These are so wonderful, Lois... I love looking at drawings/painting of cars. Even though this might be out of your comfort zone, it's so identifiable as yours....just beautiful. I especially love the little VW bug!!
Sierraiola
Oh this is beautiful! Stepping outside of your comfort zone is always pretty difficult- but these turned out great!!!

They're looking really good! Maybe you could do a tutorial on drawing things that are out of your comfort zone? 🤔

I think they came out great! You stayed true to your style and gave them character, but they look realistic at the same time.
Devotionart
They look amazing, all the shapes and the rendering look really good! 🙌🏻💖 cars are something kinda hard to draw, so you did an amazing job with them ✨👏🏻

Radka Kopecka (radu.k.art)
I love how they turned out!!! Will you be sharing some process videos of the sketches you post? I noticed you stopped doing that, so I'm wondering as I would be interested to see :)

I wouldn't have known this wasn't a strong point for you, tbh. Looks great. The only thing off is the flatbed truck (bottom left). I can see in the photo reference why we don't see into the back, but in the drawing something about the angle makes you feel like you should see into it from above. That's an annoying comment, I'm sure. I mostly work from references and it's always aggravating when you faithfully represent a photo but the painted version doesn't fool the viewer like the photo does.

You did a pretty good job for something you struggle with!! <3 I found that with straight shapes how you use color is very important and u did that really well!
Anska
Aww, those are great. I love the way you caricatured the cars - if that‘s the right word in this case. I especially like the top most one, with it‘s pointy front and the blueish lines on the back, it makes me think of the car version of a dachshund wagging its tail.

They look so good. Love how you are doing something that's outside of your comfortzone!

I love these, Lois! There's so much personality coming through from each of these cars. I'd take these over any other vehicle design at any time, even if these are just studies! <3

Woooo, love these Loish! Your style is recognizable immediately!
