ahh, i'm so sorry to hear that! the patreon player definitely has some issues. can you watch the entire video? if not, you can find it here as well - https://www.patreon.com/posts/64518198

Hello Loish, I don't know if this just happens to me, but I've tried several times and the video stops at 3:10 and 9:00 even when it's buffering correctly. I avoid this by just skipping a few seconds after those intervals. Nice tut btw!

Lisa Johnston Hancock

This is awesome! I cannot wait to try. Thank you for your detailed explanations.

Loish

happy to help! layers/masks/levels are quite universal tools amongst digital image software so this workflow should be easily translatable to any program!

Christopher

your a really big inspiration to learn more about converting my traditional art digitally, this was a big help on finding the way to do this in clip studio thank you i learned a lot from this one video, I cant wait to learn more from you!

Loish

happy to help!

Day

This is the first time I finally understand what a mask is, your explanation is so detailed and clear! Thank you so much for this Loish!

Loish

happy to hear that!

I absolutely would have never figured this out and your tip for Procreate worked perfectly I just had to make sure the three-finger gesture for the copy and paste menu was turned on lol. This is so much easier than anything I was doing before. : D

Loish

sorry to hear that simon! this is a known issue with patreon and they're working on it, but for now, here are some other links through which you can watch the video - https://www.patreon.com/posts/update-subtitled-64518198

Hi, was wondering is it Patreon or the video hosting platform? this video got half way but it paused and then it just wont allow me to play the video at all.

andy_illustrates

AHHHHH yes of course! I think I got confused because I could see the layer behind it maybe? But yes, that makes sense I see now. Thank you!

Loish

hey andy! I think that's because I already kind of removed the paper texture in the black and white version before copy/pasting it. but please do correct me if I'm wrong, I'm kind of guessing the answer because I'm not sure which exact moment you're referring to!

andy_illustrates

Heya! I just watched this and it's wonderfully helpful. There's just one thing I didn't understand, and can't try it out on my laptop because it keeps crashing 😢 (I need to invest in a new one, really). The question is: when you copy the linework layer onto the "red square mask layer" I don't understand why it only selects the linework, and not the paper texture behind it. Why is this? Is it just the type of selection you used on the linework layer? Thank you so much for creating this and taking the time to read this!

This is so smart!! I love it. One thought I had, do you think all those smudges come from using tissue to rest your hand on while drawing? Instead of using paper. Because tissue is a blending tool, so even the pressure from resting your hand is bound to cause all that smudging. Using paper to rest my hand on (as well as a makeup brush to brush away eraser crumbs) really helps me to prevent any smudging! Just a thought!

This is the tutorial I didn't know I needed. Thanks Loish!!

Alfred Manzano

This was definitely better than the way I was doing it lol. Thank you!

Tania

In the list where can I find this video? Thank you

Tania

Hello Loish, thank you very much for answering me and for sending me the new link to vimeo. I'm talking to patreon to try to fix it. About the subtitles, could they be seen in Spanish? I would really appreciate this because I don't understand English at all and I have to go around doing transcriptions to translate them later. Thank you very much for your art :)

Loish

I'm so sorry to hear that Tania! this is an issue with patreon video. For now, try watching them here instead - https://www.patreon.com/posts/update-subtitled-64518198

Nina

This is really helpful! :)

Tania

Hello. I just became a patron because I love learning from you, but I'm finding that all the videos after a while stop and give me an error, I don't know why this happens and how I can fix it. Thank you

Loish

so glad you found it helpful! I feel like sketch lines are too precious to lose sometimes.

Kate Kos

Thanks Loish, this is really helpful!

Alba Da Virgi

Oh God Loish, I have been redrawing digitally all my pieces FOR YEARS. This has been game changing. I'm astonished. I mean it, thank you for this knowledge. Oh wow. Glad to be one of your many patrons ♥️ SO GOOD.

Sharon Tu

Wow thanks! Says June 20th 🤪. That would be magical if I am able to get it sooner! Thank you!

Loish

hey sharon! you can pre-order it directly through 3dtotal, although I'm not sure if that will guarantee an earlier arrival! https://store.3dtotal.com/collections/loish-books

Loish

the one I use most often is a cintiq 27QHD!

Olga Trawińska

Can u tell me what tablet do you use most often? I know it’s cintiq but which one? 🤔🥺

Sharon Tu

Hello! You’re always fabulous and I am looking forward to your art book. Amazon says it will be released in August. Is there a date and a site if it magically wanted to come out sooner? Thank you!

Loish

that's a great idea but unfortunately i am really not skilled at photobashing myself. i've done it a few times in the context of work, but it was a real struggle for me. i'm just used to drawing everything!

Loish

awesome, thank you so much!! i figured there were more efficient ways of doing it.

Lauri Panopoulos

Hi Lois, Thank you for this one. It’s going to be a big help for a current project!

Hello, very informative tutorial as usual, Loish. Just want to point out that in Photoshop we don’t need to go into the Channels palette to paste a mask. We can paste it right into the Layer Mask, provided it’s ‘visible’. For instance at around 7:50 min where Layer 4 is filled with red, if we (option/alt+click) on that white Layer Mask thumbnail, the mask will now become ‘visible’, and we will no longer see red, our screens will see a full sized version of the mask, in this case empty (white). Then we paste our sketch line layer right onto there and edit it if we want. The trick !!! is to remember to press (option/alt) when clicking on the mask thumbnail. If we just click on it and it looks selected, and hit paste, PS will just make a new layer copy of the paste. Also, there is an ‘invert’ button in the properties panel when the mask is selected, but even more handy is the ‘density’ slider, because you can mess with the mask independently of the Layer opacity and fill sliders, —really useful with textures. I realize none of my points might actually save any seconds, but to me this is an easier way to visual what’s going on; also some beginners avoid alpha channels at first because reasons scary. Peace.

This was so great! Thank you so much. I actually asked a similar question in my photoshop class a couple months ago and the answer I got was nowhere near so useful.

Lucía Navarro

Muchas gracias por este maravilloso tutorial ! Es super interesante! Espero que estés pasando unos felices días☀️❣️

Neslişah GÖKÇE

Hiya Lois! I was wondering, if you have any experience at it at all, can you make your next tutorial video (or any one of them any time you want) about photobashing? Especially photobashing in Procreate. That would be wonderful!
