EARLY ACCES // landscapes
🕑 Added 2025-04-14 12:24:00 +0000 UTCI just finished planning a trip to Scotland, so I’ve been thinking about lush, green, epic landscapes! I also want to improve at rendering with a more painterly style. I struggle with this a lot because I really like the clean, crisp contours of the lasso tool and the hard round brush. Basically, I prefer to outline the shapes rather than blend them together. However, I do want my work to be more painterly and textured - so doing these studies was a way to practice this!
I was really frustrated with the process because I really struggle with drawing rocks. Something about their harsh, jagged geometry just doesn’t vibe with my more blobby, organic way of drawing. So I’ll definitely be doing more rock and environment studies in the coming months - maybe I'll get better at it 😅 Hope you like these - and if you have any tips for a tourist in Scotland, let me know!

oooh I love these!!! I used to live in Scotland and would highly recommend the east coast!! Aberdeen is a good base to do day trips to places like Bennachie, Balmoral, Lochnagar, or Dunnottar castle

yesss I've heard about the midges! I will be getting the repellent, midge nets and the works. hopefully it won't be so bad when we go 😅 thanks for the excellent recommendations!

These are gorgeous!!! I hope you have an amazing time! I live in Scotland and I agree with the comment about midges- definitely pick up a midge net if you're going from May onwards! I'd highly recommend a visit to Glen Coe, or some of the islands like Skye, Harris/Lewis, or Islay (fantastic for wildlife). If you're into hill walking, I'd also recommend the Cobbler and walkhighlands.co.uk is a great site for route maps and guides ! :)
