I'm late watching this, so it's unlikely you'll see. But to answer your question, British chips are great. Well, the ones you get at fish and chip places (chippie) are, i.e. ones that come in newspaper wrappings or a cone, such as Woody has. I understand you not liking thicker chips (fries) because, generally, I am the same. Thicker chips from steak houses or burger places are dry and heavily seasoned. But from the chippie, they're double fried, so they are light and fluffy on the inside and then crisp and golden on the outside. You could nibble the end off, and then suck the potato out if you so desire. They're also fried in beef dripping, so they're flavoursome without the need for aggressive seasoning. I could go on and on, but I won't. But if you ever visit the UK and want to try thicker chips, make sure you go to a fish and chip shop.
