Yeah you have to find parts and rebuild some of them. My mp40 was a rebuild and made semi auto. Trying to find an mg42/mg3 kit.

I've got a K98K and a C96, but the craziness and fakery involved with anything WWII German has made me somewhat reluctant to go any deeper.

Yes - though the SLR would likely have to be deactivated. Live fire SMLE could be held on a firearms certificate.
