This is awesome. I do not think this is a reasonable snapout, but a necessary point on her character arc. I just hope at some point she will be able to regret her actions here.

Chris O

If it’s wrong for them, then it’s wrong for her too.

Omoi

Deserved. Any other outcome would lead to more innocents dying. What other outcome so efficiently cuts the head off the hydra and cauterizes them? All those screaming she killed innocents, yea she did... what other outcome would not do the same?

Hawkan Hawks

Arguably surprised she did not snap sooner. Absolute torture to loop like that..

Amadhe

Reasonable Crashout. Honestly. I’ve wanted to do the same ever since I understood this truth about the system. I’ve become convinced that the only way to fix the system is to remove and rebuild it from scratch. I’m not sure if the system I rebuild will last through the ages better, but action is needed now. In a way Enteria, is like a reflection of our own Globe. The Earth is facing climate issues, and humanity is too disunited to dispel these issues, though the issue is that we, theoretically, could actually avert it, if only we choose to.

Anotherb Account

Wow. Great stuff, well written.

Mr NerfGun

I don't understand the bit with "can't justify actions .... worked too" What would it matter if her actions were justified or not?

Gopard

So the literally BIGGEST problem actually is HOW MANY INNOCENTS SHE FUCKING MURDERED... How many, servants, civilians, beggars, children, tourists and generally random innocent people? Man what Mirian did was the equivalent of NUKING WASHINGTON DC... (well not quite as wholesale destruction) it's probably more like "firebombing the governmental district there... totally justified for all the fucking shit the USA pull every day and have done historically SOME might argue... But then aren't there WAY MORE innocent people that died here rather then "corrupt bastards"? I just don't see this going away and I doubt Mirian will be able to shed the reputation of "raging psycho mass murderer" after this among the prophets.

Gopard

nah I agree with everything you said... but she didn't do more than her dad can do... "as long sd the soul is still close" Gaius was also able to resurrect people... so that's not all "that impressive" for the scale of magic shown so far in story^^

Clifton

The trouble with burning the capital to the ground with all the elites inside is someone else needs to step up to take their place. I suspect chaos is more likely in the short term rather than a coherent response. If the loop lasts long enough for organisation to be reasserted, I fully expect someone promising retribution against the person seen destroying the capital to be the most likely outcome.

Rex Martin

Hopefully she gets a few loops of rest now

Armo

Leaving aside all the obvious and important moral and ethical debates Mirian is currently ruminating on, a feasible and entirely bitter outcome of this would be for Mirian’s outburst to be perceived as an act of divine retribution that actually does stick to the remaining people in power. Too little too late, obviously, but perhaps something to end the loop on a hopeful note with; that politicians and other elites are still capable of responding to at least some stimuli.

lenkite

She should just ally with Ibrahim - but the problem is that she would then be fighting Akana next too and then it just becomes a prophet against prophet slogging war.

lenkite

Sadly regaining empathy won't solve this hard problem. Mirian unfortunately doesn't know how to effectively use the THREAT of violence on politicians without actually *committing* said violence. She badly needs some training in this. Without extensive threats and some carrots, this mission will simply not get done, no matter her Prophet appellation. Baracuel is a corrupt, colonial republic that makes Britain in the era of the East India Company look like a innocent chicken.

lenkite

Nah its pretty straightforward - she needs to take hostages. These are corrupt people - they ONLY understand language of force and leverage. She needs to take the guild masters family hostage, the family of the lord governor hostage - and any other blockers she can identify. Baracuel's rulers have successfully applied the hostage policy to their colonies. Mirian was a hostage herself after all. They will understand this policy intrinsically when it is applied back to them. Along with the stick, she also needs to offer some carrots. They don't really matter because of the loop, so she can promise something deferred to the future. She needs to be cold and calculating if she want any sort of mission completion. Also, she needs to re-learn patience. It took her several years to achieve some of her goals. Just because she had a few quick successes in the last few loops, she should not assume operations with many people are going to be simple. The other alternative is to just do it ALL by herself. The Ominian told her to GROW after all.

AlecL

I think Miriam needs a Hug more than anything tbh

Asur

I'm pretty sure that was all a setup from another prophet

Anton Espholm

I think Mirian is in desperate need for someone to manage politics for her. What is Gabriel doing at this point, and is it more valuable than letting Mirian focus on the actual important work? Mirian is a god tier wizard but letting her be involved in politics well probably end with her joining team apocalypse.

Chymor

Personally I find it a little too coincidental that she immediately encountered her adopted family when confronted with the cost of violence. But I guess that reinforces that lesson quickly. Whatever plan she settles on won’t be indiscriminate violence.

MaddoScientisto

She needed the meltdown

Cutbastra

Kicking his feet in the air, while we weep in despair and sheer horror.

Cutbastra

A pray to thee, oh great author, puller of heartstrings and writer of peak.

Dino

I do love that the world and stakes are complex enough that it's genuinely unclear what she should do. Take time off and heal for sure but the problems facing her project seem almost insurmountable at this point. The inertia of culture is a force not even a walking natural disaster can contend with

Leaf

i do hope she becomes more sane, and perhaps regains some empathy. i think it’d be rather helpful to her (and her efforts to save the world)

YarrowFlowers

I agree but I also don’t see what they’ll be able to do about it. It seems like they’d need to gather every arcanist above 80 myr from Akana and Baraquel to even have a shot against her which would be a crazy effort. Blades in the dark wouldn’t work cause loops, so they need to have her at their mercy to curse her/remove her anchor but with the 4d teleportation and the necromancy and the insane myr rating I just don’t see how they pull it off?

tentacles4all

Ok , I see the path. The only way this works is if Mirian perfects the mind control technology...

AbyssalRadish

I for one welcome our new overlord Mirian.

FuriousDee

I doubt it, doesn’t Gaius kill them each loop.

FuriousDee

They still only have half a year, she doesn’t have time for either of those things.

Robert Mullins

Captain Voran going to show up with the rest of the praetorians at her home? Not immediately of course but in a few weeks?

TheLemooon

I hope she takes a break and just graduates for once and maybe opens the artificing shop she dreamt of

Armo

Aw damn. So many ways this can go from here. Mirian’s thoughts on needing to be cold and calculating have much sense, but are so very sad. I would not fault Mirian for drawing a line in the sand on what she will do to save that planet. The line here seems to be that Mirian will not abide giving power to those who do not deserve it. It’s a line I can respect. Besides, every other prophet has drawn a line on what they will do in one way or another already. Gabriel wants to minimise bloodshed and resists anything that doesn’t maximise that outcome. Liuan has drawn a line at not kneecapping Akana with abolishing spell engines. Ibrahim has not given up on destroying Baracuel and taking revenge - though he has softened on some things, like killing Gabriel. Similar things can be said about other prophets. Perhaps all the prophets having such lines in the sand is why the Ominian is so pessimistic this entire enterprise will succeed.

PaperMache7

Who knows how the other prophets will react exactly, but it'll be interesting to see their reaction to what's essentially a demi-god having a mental breakdown.

Alex Almond

Im begging for a reaction/interlude chapter to see how the other prophets view this... Please...

BlastYoBoots

My mind reordered the letters of “Sithlord” quite unfortunately at first glance.

Enthernal

great chapter, the dam finally breached and it was magnificent. I'm looking forward to see where things will go from here on. Will she finally take time to relax and heal herself from all the strain of being in the loop for 30 years? After that I really hope she revises her plans, the current plan was doomed to fail from the beginning. Also, did she just pulled off a perfect resurrection? Or at least close enough it seems.

mkalte666

Miri needs a vacation and some significant healing. Loved the chapter.

Robert Mullins

Sithlord Mirian struck down by a child just as she was hitting her stride. Shameful. Revan and Malak could have done it better.

Robert Mullins

Or did the inhuman view lead to this pointless destruction that doesn't actually help?

Ike5421

Let the healing begin... Hopefully... Maybe. She is in so much fucking pain.

Griffus

I liked this chapter a lot, I Hope she gets Gaius and just spends this loop with family, maybe even the entire next loop too to just relax and decompress

zoarian

I did ask Santa for a smiting chapter, and it sure delivered. Felt very satisfying in an empty sort of way. That bit with her family was a nice touch too, I think it fits the story beats really well. More set-up for Mirian setting her sights on Godhood, first the how of thinking in glyphs. Now the why: a necessity of an inhuman viewpoint in solving the problem.

Alobomb

Wow Mirian.... you're so cool 😍😍😍😍

Kain

Yeah justified crash out buuuut absolutely gonna lose her any kind of PR war that might be happening behind her back among the other profits. “Child tyrant throws tantrum and slaughters city on a whim” is an easy headline to sell when it’s pretty much all true.

Robert Mullins

They still can. They just need to evacuate their cities first.

Robert Mullins

This motherfucker was probably giggling to himself when he wrote their first meeting in florin City and they mentioned they were on the way to torviol.

Keifru

Well. Thats a helluva situation for Mirian to be in at the end of this chapter. There are... so many ways this can go. I feel like Mirian is going to confess knowing she's adopted, perhaps even that she was kidnapped and her birth mother murdered. I dont' think she'll fully admit who her real father is. But I certainly can see her kind of just... opening up as a way of explaining her rage. Its also going to be REALLY interesting how the other prophets react to this. Liuan is totally going to interpret this as all of her fears. I'm still wondering what Gabriel is thinking- he's kind of been on Mirian's side and has been doing some investigation in the background. He's likely sitting on some information relating to Secrebur since we had a brief PoV of him following some generals to 'confirm' things. We still dont 'know what he confirmed/found out.

FuriousDee

Well shit. I don’t think the other prophets should let Mirian be involved in manipulating countries anymore. Outside of maybe being a threat for the others to use.
