Becoming Fifi: Chronicle of Change - 27

So, Journal, Annisa has been at it again. Playing matchmaker! But let me start from the beginning.
The day began early morning, with Annisa and I overseeing a wedding venue set-up. We were inside the lavish confines of one of Jakarta’s finest hotels. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting prismatic reflections over the grand ballroom. While the opulence of the setting did momentarily distract me, the tasks of the day soon beckoned. Aligning the tables just so, ensuring the flower arrangements were symmetrical (an obsession of Annisa's, no doubt), and then briefing the hired help. It was all hands on deck, and amid the hum of preparation and the soft conversations echoing through the marble-clad halls, one sound remained a constant: the familiar click-clack of my heels on the polished floor.
Oh yes, speaking of which – my feet are now flexible enough to fit back into my Biancas. 'Oh joy!' 'Oh rapture!' It was a bittersweet moment as I slipped the towering heels onto my crippled feet. Ah, the Biancas. Wearing them wasn't just a matter of coordinating my outfit, though they did match impeccably. No, those shoes hold a sentimental significance. They were the first pair Annisa had gifted me and wearing them again brought back a lot of memories. on one hand, they are a symbol of Annisa's kindness; on the other, they are a tangible representation of this complex mess I find myself in.
As the day wore on, my supervisory role saw me flitting about the dining hall, offering a smile here, a reassuring nod there, and sometimes an eye roll (reserved for when no one was looking). The pressure of the responsibility, combined with the pressure building in my aching legs, made for a day that was as mentally draining as it was physically.
But then, just as the day's event drew to a close, just when I thought we could call it a day, Annisa had other plans.
"Fifi," she said, voice full of enthusiasm, "Let’s get a drink on the way home. A toast to our success here today!"
My initial reaction? Utter dread. For the past few hours, I had been dreaming of kicking off the Biancas and having a hot bubble bath before collapsing into bed. But her sparkling eyes and infectious energy, combined with the logistics of getting back to the apartment by myself, left me with no real choice.
However, before I could muster a reply, she added, "I have something quick to take care of. You go ahead. The driver knows the way. I'll be right behind you.
As the car whizzed through the bustling streets of Jakarta, the rhythmic motion lulled my thoughts into a daze. But soon enough, the vehicle pulled to a gentle stop outside another luxury hotel, its marbled facade gleaming under the spotlights. The door opened, and as I prepared to step out, an all-too-familiar jolt of pain coursed through my lower legs. Oh, the infernal Biancas! Heaving myself upright with as much grace as one could muster in such footwear, I took a deep breath... and then froze. There, not twenty feet away, stood Kevin.
Journal, if I could have, I'd have disappeared on the spot. So you can picture the scene, here is a drawing of what I looked like in that moment. Here I was, trapped in an intricately designed lace dress, every ounce of me echoing femininity, from the gentle sway of my side ponytail to the way my dress's silky inner slip played teasingly against my skin with every step. "Of all the times to look dressed for a date," I mused ruefully, acutely aware of how my makeup - those long lashes, the captivating eyeliner, and my red glossed lips - accentuated my features, enhancing the illusion.

Gathering my composure, I slowly minced towards Kevin, each step feeling like a betrayal of my own identity. His eyes, however, were wide with astonishment and... was that desire?
As I approached, Kevin's usual assertive demeanour seemed to have been replaced with the giddy excitement of a puppy. Before I knew it, he'd stepped forward, planting a chaste kiss on my left cheek, his voice barely containing his awe. "You look... breathtaking," he whispered.
Still reeling from this unexpected turn of events, I thanked Kevin for the compliment, allowing him to take my arm and lead me towards the hotel's elevators. Soon, we emerged onto a rooftop cocktail bar, the setting sun painting a panoramic backdrop. Here, amidst the soft glow of fairy lights and soft piano music, I found a moment to breathe.
Kevin, for all his initial enthusiasm, shifted into the role of a perfect gentleman. The conversation, surprisingly, flowed easily. We chatted about the Premier League's latest fixtures, debated strategies for the newest RPG games, and discovered a shared passion for indie music. Amidst the unlikely setting and even unlikelier circumstances, I found a companionable resonance with Kevin - a strange yet heartening realization.
Yet, as the evening wore on, my thoughts veered towards Annisa. She was always full of surprises, forever toeing the line between maddening and well-meaning. Why set this up? Was it her idea of a joke, or did she genuinely believe there could be something more between Kevin and me? And as I pondered this, another wild thought sprang up, one I was almost afraid to contemplate: What if I did date Kevin? The concept was downright comical. After all, under this intricate web of lace and makeup, I was David. An average guy! Surely, it was the ambience of the evening or maybe the fatigue from the day making my thoughts wander into absurd territories.
I exited the bar that evening, my mind whirling from the events of the day. While a large part of me wanted to confront Annisa for her unpredictable schemes, another couldn’t help but silently appreciate the break from routine – even if it was through such a bewildering encounter.

Now I have to ask, did Kevin work up the courage to kiss his hot date goodnight? She obviously liked him with how the each spoke of shared passions.
