I don't know if you know, but the Author said it was around 5 years left of One Piece. And that was almost a year ago. We can truly see the end of the series. It's far off still, but we can actually believe its around 5 more years. Mysteries are unraveled and the world is getting bigger towards the big pond at the end, and hopefully The One Piece. Yes, the Author had the end planned from the start:)

Get that hamster! :D It will probably not jump out, they are not that dumb. They are kinda scared for difficulties and are lazy. But it will also probably sleep most of the time down there without being seen, as they are night active. I worked some years at a pet shop. I would rather get a rat if you don't have problems with them. It would probably climb all around you and try to lick your snot out of your nose. I had some of those and they are a carnival compared to hamsters.

Stuff like this is also what makes me appreciate Long Ring Long Land. That short arc was fun and light hearted but it does show the crew working together. It really helped to show the bonds of everyone which makes this arc hit even more.

Problem with Ussopp is that he doesnt know his place in the crew like the rest of them do. This whole arc shows that Luffy needs to grow as a captain a hell of a lot more

I'm glad you reached these episodes because honestly I was reading Water Seven as the manga version (and I do mean scanlations because Viz just started publishing One Piece when this arc was happening in Japan) was coming out and the Luffy/Usopp argument grabbed me. It just took One Piece to this VERY REAL place with it's characters and I never missed reading the manga in real time since that day. That was almost 20 years ago. Water Seven does bring up a LOT of plot threads: 1. The fact that Robin's character hasn't been expanded upon. 2. The Going Merry needing to be replaced 3. Getting a new shipwright (oh,and we have SO many contenders) 4. Resolving Usopp's fallout with the crew and that doesn't even scratch the surface of what this arc is going to throw at the Straw Hats. Water Seven is one of the arcs that I feel truly defines the peak of Oda's writing.

This is the saga of Luffy being a captain and needing to make tough decisions. The whole crew develops including a ton for Usopp and Luffy it's amazing. I'm so glad that you understood Usopp's viewpoint, a lot of reactors wildly misinterpret this argument.

This arc continues to prove the masterful writing of Oda!! Even 1000 chapters in as of January 4th 2021, there are still incredible plot twists and tie-ins from previous arcs! This mans Oda will always make me cry LOL

I agree with everything that has been said about Usopp’s feelings about the Merry and his place in the crew. But I would add one more thing. Usopp has never completely accepted Luffy as Captain. He has called himself Captain Usopp or vice Captain on more than one occasion. I think Usopp also saw this as a betrayal of their friendship.

Yeah this was such a well written scenario, it had been set up for months with every scene of Usopp trying to patch up the Merry. Usopp has been feeling like he's not measuring up to the abilities of the rest of the group for so long. He feels like he doesn't have a cut and dry role on the ship outside of being a good marksman. He's been trying to feel useful by doing things like patching up the Merry, but he knows that he's hit his limitations since he's not a shipwright. He's been projecting his insecurities onto the ship and thus the Merry has mentally become an extension of himself. And the timing of Luffy's decision to move on without the Merry on top of Usopp's two back to back losses to the Franky Family has made him internalize the idea that like the Merry, he too is expendable and no longer holds any value to the Strawhats beyond some nice memories.
