I agree with a lot of what you said but I think when people say “Drag” they could be talking about something completely different. One piece does have moments that are slow or filled with recap but with the level of detail in the story I feel there has to be a low point to compare the hype to.

If you want me to give you an honest discourse on the One Piece anime the gradual sense of "drag on" started with Enies Lobby and it gets more noticeable each subsequent arc. It just that the story has enough things going on that you're willing to forgive the anime for the extended recaps, flashbacks, reaction shots because it delivers on the execution of a variety of key scenarios. Where I think your patience will be tested is after around episode 517. There's a big change in how One Piece structures it's story and the anime producers double down on "filling time" in really obvious ways where the manga gets more to point. Conversely the manga gets more dense and glosses over smaller details that the anime is able to depict with more accuracy. That's the reason folks are complaining about Dressrosa because, IMO, despite having a VERY strong story it was the LOWEST point for the anime in terms of production quality and having that Dragonball Z effect. It got to the point where after that arc Toei made an active gradual effort to overall improve the quality of the anime. It started with the character designer stepping down (mind you we're actually in the midst of the original character designer leaving the show in Thriller Bark so this is the 3rd person) in exchange for someone who could draw and key animate the characters better. Some of the older animators came back into the mix and it ultimately culminated in Wano which is a tour-de-force in the anime finally fixing it's pacing and animation issues. To make a comparison Wano is to One Piece anime fans what Jojo Part 5 was to Jojo anime fans.

Actually, Ryuma (the swordsman zombie) is recycled from an old story of Oda were the main character was kind of a prototype Zoro. So that is why they share so many similarities, it's as if two versions of the same person met

Yeah the thing with the recaps is over the top at some times. But I can bear with it. I mean back in the days some of these scenes where like 5-6 weeks apart from another. So I guess it fit TOEI well to include them. Making sure the audience remember them and also lengthen their episodes xD Oh and you noticed the first Wano namedrop aswell back when Hogback mentioned that Ryuuma is from said country

dude i cant WAIT for you to get into the Wano arc in the 900s. I know thats so far away but it's honestly one of the best arcs I've seen in the entire series. And Wano isnt even over in the manga yet so its probably gonna end up the longest arc in the series once it's finished.

Gotta love oda. The more you watch the bigger the story.

Lore Fun fact: Ryuma and Zorro seem so similar because Zorro was based off of Ryuma's design from an older one-shot by Oda where Ryuma (the zombie Zorro is fighting) fights and slays a dragon. Art-wise Ryuma had the identical face and basic character design.

Hey Ruff, are you excited for Stone Ocean's anime (I really think we're getting it soon)? I love the manga, but I think it's better to leave where you left off and see the rest in the anime with all the music and animation. It'll be less confusing in the later chapters too.
