The fact that Moria's bounty was 320 (or something around I don't remember) backs this too, in his prime he was considered basically the same level as Luffy. Thriller Bark really is the arc of fear, not of spooky stuff but of the level of the seas ahead. 2 Warlords at the same time are an enormous obstacle for the crew, while people like Moria claim to have been crushed by even stronger guys

These episodes shows why Moria is a great villain and how he actually has a lot of depth to him. Throughout the entire arc he is just seen as lazy and weak but here we finally get some justification for why. He was once like Luffy and had a crew that he loved. He went into the New World and got destroyed there and his entire crew was killed. Now he is depressed. He doesn't want to have another crew that he grows to love just to lose them all again. This is why he uses zombies. It doesn't matter if they get defeated and he doesn't need to grow attached to them. This depression has also caused him to become lazy over the years. He is a what if story and a possible future for Luffy is shit goes real bad.

I'm not a big fan of pirates normally, but One Piece is my favorite story of all time. Got into it about 2 years ago, and have watched an reread it multiple times. Best story ever told.

I have a lame analogy for why most people dont like it as much... it's like Suicide Squad Joker is sandwiched between Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix Joker.. when u are between two of the greatest sagas, ppl tend to look at it quite harshly. Thriller Bark isnt bad at all, if you put this arc in any other generic shounen story, it wouldve been a great arc. But as i said, its between two of the greatest sagas and so doesnt help it at all.. But last half of the story of the arc is awesome

The way Oda keeps mentioning Moria battling kaido is really interesting in hindsight, Moria looks down on luffy because he sees what happened to his own crew in the straw hats, the New World is an entirely different beast.

The phone call between Kuma and the World Government official said that they've chosen the replacement for Crocodile. My recommendation is to go watch Episode 151, and 325 again. You can piece together who it is, and more importantly, how he did it, based on the information from those episodes.

Hey Ruff, would you kindly hazard a guess about what the One Piece actually is? Because you keep predicting things, including major story points that happen dozens or even hundreds of episodes later, and it's getting to where you're putting Nostradamus to shame. Seriously. You made an off-the-cuff remark and I about sneezed out my left lung because you ever so casually predicted a major, dramatic plot point.

next episodes are next level

It's really nice to watch someone go through for the first time in real time, and it's really helped me to truly appreciate a lot of parts of the story that I either forgot or didn't really react to the first time through. Not to mention that every time there's a guess or a hope for the future, or an off the cuff mention of something, I can either be right there with Ruff, go "Hah, he's gonna love when that pays off," or "Oh, that actually ties back to such and such later on, dang." I've developed a bit of a crackpot theory, and stick with me here (maybe spoilers but no names, just mention of the state of the New World) but I think that Moria was actually a BEAST back when he was a rookie. Not only that, but his laziness since has dulled his abilities. What I'm saying is that I think that back in his best days as a pirate, he would have been able to take that number of shadows in him, and I'll go further by figuring that that's HOW HE FOUGHT before he started the zombie thing. Just a thought I had rewatching this stuff.
