Yay!! I've been looking forward to these episodes for so long, they're some of my favorite to go back and watch! I'm glad you liked them, they really are jam-packed with action, and that moment where the black bulls come together to defend Finral always gets me SO hype!

The reason the mom was so mean to Finral is because he and Langris are half-brothers, same father but different mothers. That's why she said he wasn't her child and why she doted on Langris so much. It wasn't an uncommon thing for second or third wives of royalty or nobility to try to push their own kid to become the next head of the family, a lot of times by trying to make the oldest kid(s) look bad. That way, their kid would get the inheritance and be able to take of them when they got older. It's a fucked up but historically accurate occurrence.
