The end of that episode was a short flashback to when law said he wanted to form an alliance to take down an emperor. At that point they never mentioned who they actually planned on taking down and it was a bit of a cliffhanger so that was just law showing who they are actually planning on taking out.

The Stawhats would die for Luffy but they wouldn't do it by taking down people like that, especially kids. That's probably why it seems so different. One of my favourite things to see in this series is when the Staw Hats do their thing when everyone else thinks it's impossible and are just shocked. Like Luffy and Zoro vs Aqua Lagoona. The Marines and Ceasers guys in ep 620. Edit: The issue with the pacing in Dressrosa was due to week to week. It's 102 chapters which took two years to publish. Watching it in 2-4 episode bursts should make the pacing a none issue, especially if you skip the recaps.
