Believe it or not the 1st time I watched this I actually skipped the entire oden flashback Originally so when he eventually cut the ship and revealed who he really was I actually did an anime style falling back in my chair

Some things Oda has been leaving offscreen for the anime to take care of because of rushing. Not necessarily a bad thing like with page1 vs Sanji but some weird things like Luffy struggling where he shouldn't.
