In Little Red Riding Hood, if the Wolf is just a wolf, then he is just a predator acting according to his nature. If you make the Wolf a werewolf, then he is just a predatory monster acting as monsters typically do. If you make everyone in the story an anthro canid, then the Wolf is now a cannibal, transvestite, serial killer that lives in a forest and stalks little girls.
