I think it's largely just that Brutus is *freakin' huge*, and Natani is actually quite tall as well. Clovis is just "slightly petite" compared to the average female.

A subtle and impossibly intricate magical weave tweaking, twisting, and shifting causality, memetic transfer, and sensory input wherever they touched the very concept of the keidran called Clovis. The effect essentially boiled down to this: The more Clovis tried to mask his physical gender, the more the universe would shift around him to place the folf into situations where his secret might be revealed. The harder he tried to hide, the more outlandish and precarious the situation became, and the more suspicious and curious the people around him grew of his dark secret. On the opposite side of the coin, however, was this: The LESS Clovis tried to hide - the more openly he lived as a normal keidran female - the less able people around him became to tell that the female wolfox they were interacting was even the male formerly known as Clovis to begin with. To the point that should Clovis, say, go out on a fancy date night in a pretty dress on the arm of a handsome wolven male, it became all but impossible for anyone - even his greatest enemies - to recognize him at all. It was then that Clovis understood this curse for what it was. A demand. An ultimatum. Give up the life of the wicked, womanizing former Crime Prince Clovis and accept your new place as an ordinary female with a chance for comfortable, even happy, but anonymous future; or struggle and fight to cling to the remains of your old life, putting yourself closer and closer to ruin with each pathetic squirm and petty misdeed. It was devious and ingenious. And had Clovis not so profoundly and utterly despised the meddling old lizard... he might almost have been impressed.

I never thought of that. Of course Zen and Natani would know Brutus if they worked for Clovis before. Maybe this chapter, we'll get a moment of recognition between the three. Brutus: "Guys! I missed you sooooooo much!" Clovis: "You're supposed to be attacking them, idiot!" Brutus: "Aw, nuts."

... and then cat nora shows up and clears up who the mysterious fox is.
