This would make a very lovely start to Kei realizing that Reni is more than just a (cute) dragoness with a crush on him, but an actual person and possible romantic interest for him... I think he might have a problem seeing other species as actual people, even if that kind of... speciecism (let's call it that) is on a more subconscious level. (I don't think he is a bad person per se, though)
