The more we learn about the differences between Eastern and western Bacedonia The more reminds me of Berlin during the cold war

to be fair, it wasn't because soldiers didn't want to do it again, it's because higer-ups didn't let them even think about it after this spontaneous ceasefire, and you could be easily executed for really trivial reason because of that. In the end, and that's the saddest part, the most motivated to do a ceasefire where certainly shot by their own side :/ Ironically, Russians soldiers in France had a better treatment, since, even when they revolted after the October revolution, they weren't executed, but, just emprisonned until the end of the war;

Like any ceasefire, I imagine they're probably only honored for so long. The Christmas Ceasefire in WW1 didn't really happen the way people make it.

Not enough beer and firearms.

Typical family reunion in the southeast USA

as an outsider from basitin traditions i'd love to see both sides celebrating and take notes down while trying to understand and have fun

i'm sure someone who doesn't like the other side would somehow take the banter the wrong way and the basitin from the side who the basitin got the banter wrong from should teach the basitin some manners without the other side being too involved right?
Roughlandin
It all started with two little Basitin kids playing a game of ball...

I wonder about the dress code… considering the East Basitins tendency to get all hot under the collar about exposed ankles…
Adamas
I have to admit to a lingering curiosity as to what caused the East/West split...

On holiday... Maddie: "I will win the contest of Mettle for sure! There's no one who can beat me!" ???:"Seriously? No one?" Maddie: "No one- wait... you?!" Western Dancer: "Hi, Maddie. Long time no see. You didn't tell me that you're from East." Maddie: "I-I can explain!" WD: "I won't tell anyone that you're a spy. On one condition" Maddie: "And th-that is...?" WD: "Dinner. Tonight. You pay. Got it?" Maddie: "Y-yes ma'am!" WD: *leaves* Maddie: "Whew, dodged an arrow here... wait," *Realize and blush* "She order me to date with her?!"

Of course, we know the true great equalizing competition: Drinking Contest!

Good parties, you say? Lazy and promiscuous, you say? ...Just how does one go about gaining an audience with this West Basitin King? This Basitin celebration sounds like a lot of family holidays I know. You might not always see eye-to-eye, and you might annoy the heck out of each other from time to time, but you know you'll be right back there next year to do it all over again. Next year in West Basidia! Awesome work, Tom! Love the concept you came up with for the Olympics style event. Fits really well with what we know about both their cultures in lore. Congrats, Firechild!

Oh, totally. Opposite sides of the fence, like Quirm and Ankh-Morpork.
Firechild
Makes sense that a more martial species like Basitins would make their holidays into Olympic contests. Now I have to wonder how many times these friends competed against each other and how many wins each of them has.
Firechild
That might be my next suggestion, but I don't know if that'd fall under potential spoiler territory or not.

Love this banter

I really want to see more of the Eastern and the Western Basitins being together. It's really unique

Feats of strength? Airing of laments? Wouldn't miss it for the world! Lemme fetch my alumin pole, we'll do this right!

I have to wonder what the Western Basitin King is like

Think they just enjoy arguing with each other

Yep, they're neighbours
