Poor Roselyn just could not catch a break, huh? I am guessing this is after the Dragon Masquerade, but I could be wrong. Still, it's clear how Saria may have had a softening effect over time-hopefully he started to see Rose as a companion in time. Still, the expressions here are great!

Actually this WASNT Trace’s first meeting with Rose, as he was there when she was brought to the academy he attended as a student after she was caught trying to find her cousin Euchre! He almost certainly saw her, because he was sent to fetch the head Templar.

No? That was never the canon, the slave bought by Trace was a completely different Keidran who was only ever seen in one panel. Rose was rescued by Saria before she and Trace had even met and stuck with her ever since.

In the comic flashbacks from ages ago, Trace's bigotry was casual. He didn't hate the Keidran or want to make them suffer, but he didn't see anything wrong with keeping them as slaves, either.

Considering the path he took after Saria's death, his reaction here makes an alarming amount of sense, unfortunately. There had to be a bit of a bigot in him already for him to go off the deep end like that. I suspect that even pre-Saria's death Trace would be horrified at what he's become.

I think Rose is the best secondary character in the entire story line! Just like anyone you care about, I hate the thought of her 'crossing the veil' into eternity, but knowing how much she loved and missed her best friend Saria, I would feel terrible if she didn't get to be with her. Beyond that, I think she's somewhat torn herself over Trace and Flora. Wanting to protect them and their child.

Rose's backstory, as far as the strip is concerned is pretty long and involved, but I'll try to provide a condensed version. Rose is the sister of Eucre, a white wolf who was gifted at magic and was able to flawlessly transform into a human. Eucre used this skill to secretly study magic at the Templar Institute and had an affair with Mary Silverlock, the dean of the Institute. Raine Silverlock Is Eucre's and Mary's daughter. Rose made the mistake of trying to spy on Eucre, was caught by the Templars, and was nearly executed. She was somehow rescued by an armorsmith named Saria au Gruhen, became her servant and very close friend. Saria eventually fell in love with Trace Legacy, a very ambitious young Templar. Trace, like most Templars, had a very dim view of Keidran and this became a point of contention between him and Saria. When Trace and Saria married, Rose joined their new household, and remained close with Saria, Trace loved Saria enough to be friendly with Rose and apparently taught her some magic. After Saria was killed by a wolf, Rose grieved but remained at the Legacy Estate. She was anxious to see Saria again and agreed to become part of Trace's plan to bring back Saria by binding her soul to a local innkeeper, Maren Taverndatter. Eventually Rose died and allowed Trace to use magic to bind her soul to the estate. Eventually Trace and Rose, with some help from Saria stopped the transformation of Saria's soul into Maren, and Rose's soul is beginning to separate from the manor and will eventually spend eternity with her friend Saria. At least that's my interpretation of recent events.

I'm not quite certain of the depth of Saria's love for Rose. I know that the two were extremely close, and some of the Sunday strips suggest that their relationship may have had romantic and possibly sexual overtones. Still, from what I have seen from the main strip Rose and Saria were just extremely close friends.
