I think the problem with owls, or at least this particular species, is that their beaks are generally pretty concealed beneath their plumage to the point that from the side you really wouldn't notice it unless you saw it from a certain angle or her mouth was open. Either way it's a pity since for the most part I actually rather do like her design.
